You mean eco mode? That switch is merely a switch to save power. I have a 750 and I never turn it on. No sense having it on as it limites power usage... well, I guess if you want to save like a few dollars on your power bill per year or if you care about how much power you use for some other reason.

I'm not sure why it would be louder but I personally see no sense in having it on anyways.

It should just be left ON
Then the fan will run at either zero or very low RPMs at those lower loads; like bootup and general OS usage and such. It will auto kick into higher RPMs as needed based on loads and PSU Temp.

In theory, this is how it is supposed to work... but unfortunately it does not.

It tends to slow down the fan when it really should be going faster, resulting in higher temps most of the time. Having it off is the best way to keep everything cool. The fan is not even remotely loud so there is literally no benefit to run eco mode. Basically, all you save is the power that the fan would use at full speed.

If that's how it is; then yes I would suggest leaving ECO OFF
Better to be safe, knowing the PSU is staying cooled properly.

Sounds more practical for a Media / HTPC rather than a Gaming (or Work; like Rendering) PC anyways.

Yeah, but here is the kicker...

With the newer tech in these psu's and the unlikelyness for us to come close to using the full power of the psu... It is completely possible for the fan to rarely, if not even come on at all.

So technically either mode is okay. I personally run it off just because. I might try it on but call me old fashioned lol

I decided to give it a shot and it turned the fan off. We'll see how this turns out lol

OP, I'm really not sure why it being on is loud for you... is it getting hot? It should only come on at 45 degrees, I believe.

I can't see it being noisy; if so then it may have issues.
As those higher-end EVGA PSUs use a 140mm fan, which are generally lower RPMs and quiet to begin with.
