How can I overclock my Intel E6750 higher?
Hey guys
I'm wondering how I can overclock my Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 higher than i have so far.
I would like to get it up to 4Ghz. The highest I could reach so far was 3.70Ghz. If i set the FSB higher than 475x8 it reverts the settings and goes back to 2.66Ghz (333x8).

Of course I have invested in my system in order to do this:
- I replaced the intel stock cooler with a Cooler Matser Hyper TX3 Evo.
- I bought faster 4GB DDR3-1333Mhz CL 9 RAM instead of the 4GB DDR2-800Mhz CL5.

Here's a CPU-Z validation link of my highest overclock so far of 3.70Ghz: http://valid.x86.fr/hd3te8
At 3.60Ghz it was stable in Prime95 for 8+ hours without an error.

What settings do I need to adjust to reach 4Ghz? When I increase FSB higher than 475x8 it goes back to 2.66Ghz, how can I prevent this from happening?
I already have advanced BIOS features like Thermal Monitoring and Enhanced Halt State set to [disabled]. As you can see here: http://i.imgur.com/d8AarYv.jpg?1

PS: As you can see here there are alot of people who managed to OC their E6750 higher than 3.70Ghz so it is perfectly possible: http://us.hardware.info/productinfo/2142/intel-core-2-duo-e6750/overclock

My PC specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7650 (2.66Ghz stock speed)
GPU: XFX Geforce 8500 GT
RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1333 CL 9
Mobo: Gigabyte P35C-DS3R
HDD 1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 7200RPM
PSU: Aopen Z400-08FC 400W
OS: Windows 10 Home 32-bit

Any help would be much appreciated :)

I see two people that hit 4GHz on that list you posted and the rest are more in line with what you're getting. They don't state what motherboard they're using. Every CPU is different and every motherboard is different when it comes to overclocking. It's mostly luck.

Yeah true overclocking is alot of trial and error and a matter of luck. But after investing in faster ram and a better cooler I would really like to reach 4Ghz. I was hoping someone here could give me guidelines on how to do it. Like increasing the voltage of the memory or adjusting the memory timings or something.

And what annoys me most of all is that when I put it at 3.80Ghz the BIOS resets itself to 2.66Ghz. Anyone any ideas on how to prevent this from happening? :steamsad:

your ram is way above 800
its at 463*2 = 926mhz

What do you mean by that?
It's rated at 1333Mhz so when i put the memory multiplier at 2.00 it only runs at 475x2 =950Mhz. That is still below the designated speed of the RAM modules.

Can you maybe please elaborate on what I need to do in order to reach 3.80+Ghz. Like which parameters do I need to adjust etc.

EDIT: Oh yes Sorry I forgot to say that CPU-Z link was still from with the DDR2-800 RAM modules.

CM tx3 is not good enough of a cpu cooler to mantain a 500fsb x8= 4ghz.
Those boards bios are very lacking, and dont give enough options to support that high of overclock for daily use . Plus you dont need 1.5volts(too high) to run 3.4 - 3.7ghz .

But do you know how I can prevent it from resetting to 2.66Ghz? There must be some thermal monitoring system in place that does that and I would like to disable it. And yes I will monitor my temperatures with RealTemp.

If your using ddr2 for memory use the lowest divider to keep it at 800mhz, 926mhz is too high for your memory. That might be why it is resetting to default.

Previously i was using DDR2-800Mhz memory but now i'm using 1333Mhz DDR3 memory
(Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1333 CL 9).
I'm keeping it under 1333Mhz with the lowest possible memory mutiplier which is 2.00 and still it resets to default speed of 2.66Ghz. Any ideas? Do i need to adjust memory timings or increase memory voltage or something?

Give us a pic of your oc settings in bios( volts, memory, fsb).
Ensimilia 17 sierpnia 2015 o 12:31
I'll do that right away! Thanks for trying to help me out :)
Here's a CPU-Z validation link of my 3.72Ghz overclock: http://valid.x86.fr/36wsgi
This is with the DDR3-1333Mhz modules. You can see the ratio is 1:1
Pics coming in a few minutes.

Here it is:

Pci express freq should not be on auto.
Try 100 - 102mhz
And please drop your cpu core volt. to 1.35 -1.4
Ensimilia 17 sierpnia 2015 o 12:50
If i lower it to 1.34-1.4Volts my system won't boot or give a POST error. I think my TX3 evo cooler can handle the temps though.

I just activated the hidden BIOS options and now there are more voltage settings to adjust. There was also an option to disable one of the cores. I have tried that now but yea even if i can overclock it to 5Ghz now.... it will be a single core. :steamsad:

Tx3 is probally good for 1600mhz, you really need a better cooler.
Ensimilia 17 sierpnia 2015 o 12:58
Ok but how can i disable that it goes back to 2.66Ghz automatically?
Do you think this will be solved by itself by going for a better cooler like the Sycthe Mugen 4 ?
Brimac 17 sierpnia 2015 o 13:07
auto settings in any bios are always set too high, then when you oc them, their even higher.
auto settings should only be used for default.
