cant overclock cpu northbridge
I have an amd phenom ii x4 955 thats overclocked using multiplier only. I recently have read about overclocking the cpu northbridge aswell but when i go into bios and raise the multiplier by even by 1 my system will boot but i get no signal on my monitor. any idea why i cant up the cpu northbridge multiplier?

when you rise the multiplier you also have to adjust the memory module timing and adjust the cpu voltage. which in turn is going to raise te core temp of the CPU. make sure you turn the fanspeed up and consider a liquid cooler for the CPU's protection.

do you mean OC my RAM aswell? I tried raising both cpu voltage and cpu nb voltage but still the same thing. i don't think temp is a problem since i am running at around 38 degrees idle and 50 gaming

It's not good to overclock any piece of a pc. If you are not able to run a game try turning the graphic quality down. If that doesnt work it might be time for an upgrade. Overclocked pieces tend to burn out quicker and cost more money down the line than just upgrading to a more up to date model.

Overclocking can be fine if you're able to maintain a cool temperature to compensate for the OC. Most of time you'll find gamers tend to do liquid cooling vs air when overclocking to help cool much better.

I didn't have any issues OC'ing the northbridge on my old Phenom II x4 940 setup. I don't recall there being a whole lot of improvement with it.

The one thing you don't want to do is OC the PCI-E lane - this caused a lot of issues when I tried it: crashes, hangs, and failure to boot.
