The AMD 9070 got hacked
They figured out the AMD 9070 can have a 9070XT bios stuck in it and increase it from 230 watts to 320 watts.
$8 external bios chip programmer (ch431a?)you stick on the backside of the card. Need some adapter for 1.8 volts. since it has two bios chips you can't brick the card if you screw it up.

AMD is going to sell alot of these GPU's. +30fps in Cyberpunk with a $8 programmer.

heard about this a few days ago. gamers nexus and linus's tech news mentioned it
the title is garbage.

Not only that but this isnt like the old days where you could turn a 6600 gt into a 6800gt, this mod is extremely unstable and doesn't magically give you more cores.

its not hacked.....the 9700 is just using defecting 9700xt dies......its unlocking the power restrictions to see what the core can do.....and its got issues like hard freezing at idle as the power save states dont work right......

you really want a dual BIOS card to even mess with this....

Plus crashing.
Those dies are rated down for 9070 use for a reason. Pretty good way to kill your card with this gamble.

You're obviouisly too young or too new to PCs to realize this is just a simple mod.
Radeon GPUs have had a long history of being able to do this.

Stop calling mods hacks. It's not the same thing and it makes you look like a complete idiot.

As others have said: Software mods can not magically make missing hardware appear that does not exist. All this does is raise the power limits and tell the card to boost to higher clocks.

Even with this mod the 9070 is still going to be:
-512 unified shaders
-32 TMU's
-8 ray accelerators
-16 compute units

compared to the 9070 XT.
YES very true, but free performance is still just and wanted non the less.
Can't really hurt, if it's helpful and working.

Vega 56 biosed with Vega 64.
Nothing new under the sun.

No such thing as free sadly, it comes with the same risks as bios swapping or power modding any card does.

Unfortunately you are incorrect: No that did not happen. As I explained above: Flashing a different bios onto a video card does NOT make the missing hardware appear. All a bios can do is raise the power limits and/or let it boost higher, nothing more. You can't magically transform a video card into a completely different model.

You mean:
"Umm, actually sir, that answer you just said is confirmed to be incorrect due to my knowledge of this specific subject..."
  1. Average Google search will pop up with tons of working examples and it was a popular mod. At least Buildzoid and GN were talking about it, take your pick.
  2. Where did I mention it would show up with all units already defused will work?
  3. You can also implement more or less VRAM with a BIOS modification, if available, or modify if architecturally possible and if you know how. Just to make it idiot-proof, you should change the DRAM ICs if possible.
Stop starting BS fights and
get out of the LLM, carajo!

its far from a hack
just modding gpu bios/firmware

they may be the same silicon design, with the same parts disabled
but performance is different due to flaws, or less efficient silicon parts

the higher binned gpu cores would be in the better performing ones while the lower performing would go in the lower tier models

if you really want to flash the lower tier card with the higher tier bios, go ahead, it may work for a while, but will kill it since its making more heat and using more power than if it was a higher tier card to begin with
and you are also killing it since it has less stock cooling than the higher tier cards

if the core was binned good enough to use as the higher end gpu it would be in one and sell for much more

but again, do at your own risk, and ymmv, and you will no be able to rma or warranty repair the card when it fails

NO! I did not "mean" anything else. I MEANT exactly what I wrote. Please do not make up, change, alter, or suggest a different way for me to write my comments. I wrote exactly what I intended to write. I did not intend to write anything else.

You said that a Vega56 became a Vega64 after flashing a Vega64 bios on it. That is not only factually incorrect but is physically impossible: You can not have one card "Become" another card by flashing the bios. A bios can not make hardware appear that does not exist.

What you can do is flash a different bios onto a video card that can overclock it to make it perform similarly to (but not the same) as the faster card.
