New to i7-4790k These Temps Normal?
Hey guys I Finnaly put the i7-4790k in,the cooler I have while putting it in did move around a little but never lifted it so no air bubbles.

Ok useing the Intel Etreme Tuning Utility or XTU Benchmark it says under load 81 - 83c did the benchmark twice is this normal? I am not overclocking just so ya know at the moment.

On my i5-4690 non k I was getting around 61c under load.

Debating if I should get the H100i or the Kracken if it will help temps.

Under idle I am around 24 - 30c but the computer has been only on for like a hour.

Not sure how good XTU is so not sure.

Please advise and thank you for the help.

if your using the stock cooler, 80 is pretty normal. grabbing the h100 or the kraken will reduce temps by around 50%.

Sorry forgot to mention what i am useing;

Noctua NH-L9i 57.5 CFM Cooler

Arctic Silver Arctic Alumina Premium Ceramic Polysynthetic 14g Thermal Paste - it got good reviews thats why I picked it.

So am I safe I dont need to worrie?

I really suck at math so that would be what? 40c from 80c?

if so then I might get a H100i or kraken, that seems pretty good.

Sorry dont mean to be a pain,I will be fine right? No need to go back in and reapply thermal paste etc?

Just want to make sure.

Expect high temps with this cooler, Notcua themselves give caution to those running it on CPUs with a TDP higher than 65w. That said performance should be about the same as the stock cooler so temps will be about 70-80c when the CPU is at 100% load. The 4790k has a TDP of 88w, 4w higher than the 4690 (non k) and I expect the i7 would possibly run slightly hotter than the i5 also due to hyperthreading.

You could try and reapply the thermal paste though if you wanted, it may drop the temps by a few degrees.Overall though I would look at getting a new cooler when it is possible for you. The h100i you mentioned is a good cooler and you would get much lower temperatures with one.
Are you air cooling the system and are you overclocking at all?

Sorry didnt know that about the cooler I am useing. I will wait till I get the H100i or the Kraken before I reapply thermal stuff.

I am curious though from what people have told me the Corsiar H100i when under load the fans can get really loud is this no longer true? I dont use headphones at this time.

Which is easier to install the H100i or the Kraken? I never installed one yet,my case is the http://rosewill.com/products/1828/ProductDetail_Overview.htm will either of those water coolers fit?

The under load temp was just useing the XTU Benchmark,I just played some Batman Arkham Knight and Witcher 3 Wild Hunt and the under load temps will hover around 40 - 60c. Which seems normal im guessing I am going by what I have read.

No I am not overclocking yet going to wait till I get a better cooler, motherboard and PSU,unless the EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply is good enough? I have read that having a decent PSU is a good idea if ya plan to overclock.

Read above I am useing the Noctua NH-L9i 57.5 CFM Cooler,Air cooling.
I'm using the Hyper 212 EVO with an i7 5820k but I don't have a need to overclock, that's why I asked. Case comes with 4x120mm and 1x200mm fans as well. At load no cooling issues at all.

Your current cooler is a good model, it's just not ideal for higher end CPUs above 65w.

I'll let you decide on your opinion of the included fans. This is a h80i in the video but the h100i uses the exact same fans. The corsair link software that can be used with these coolers does have an option to change fan speeds (e.g quiet mode etc).

I don't actually own either so I cannot help you about which is easier to install, from what i've seen on reviews of the h80 and h100i though the AMD install is fairly simple so I can't imagine the Intel installation procedure being any more difficult.

So will I be good till I get a better cooler? really don't want to go back in the case till I get a new cooler :( I am afraid too,the more I go inside the higher the chance somthing could go wrong.

I wouldnt be afraid if I had unlimited funds but I am on a budget, was a little nervouse putting the cpu and thermal paste in. The CPU wasnt cheap :(

You should be fine until you get a better cooler. Just don't peg the CPU at 100% load too often.

Ok,thanks for help.

Hmm just noticed the Corsair H105 and it seems to get higher reviews than the H100i. So yea I will get the H105 and 16gig Memory next Month :)

In Sept. I will get the MSI Z97A GAMING 7 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard :)

I noticed that even if I wanted to OC my current Motherboard if I read right can't do Overclocking or isnt the best for it. My MB at the moment is the ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard.

Corsair H105 is also a great cooler, I believe it's thicker than h100i so your temps would be even better. As for the motherboard, you will want Z97 for overclocking. The one you mentioned is a good model.
