Would a ram + ssd upgrade improve system performance / responsiveness?
I was given a work laptop that has an i7-8565u (4c/8t, 4.6ghz single, 4.1 all core boost), an MX250(25W), 16gb 2400mhz ddr4 and an Nvme ssd that has 2000mbs read and 1000mbs write.

Would buying another stick of ram and using it in dual channel mode + a faster gen 3 ssd improve system responsiveness and performance?

It is used for software development via visual studio, use ios and android emulators. Build times and emulator performance is identical to another laptop that has essentially the same specs but their systems seems to be much more responsive and animations are much faster.

Thanks in advance.

Does it have 1x 16GB or 2x 8GB for the RAM? But overall, 16GB should do fine. Check to see if it has any extra internal M2 slots for drive expansion.
Probably not. It's already got a decent amount of RAM and an SSD. A 2nd stick of ram can enable dual channel, but it won't really result in any appreciable difference to the end user.

Is it still using the same old Windows install as it was previously? A fresh install, free of unnecessary bloat might help.
Most likely not

16gb x1 @ 2400mhz, so single channel. it's only got 1 m.2 slot so it'll have to replace the old drive, which is another hassel as I don't have the authority to set up another acc

It's been updated recently with windows 11, might that be the cause?

Thanks for your input
Maybe go make your own Win11 usb flash drive. Then boot to that, wipe the entire SSD clean of all partitions and then clean install Win11 & Drivers

If need more space, should be able to add another ssd via m2 slot inside. A 2nd 16GB though isn't going to make much difference as this is a low budget laptop. Really only good for light work apps, browsing and multimedia stuff

All good, I will try a fresh win 11 install, I think the problem is all the 1st party stuff we need for a dev environment, git, azure, npm etc, hell maybe if i make enough of a rukus they will give me a new one haha
Edit: Enough rukus was made, new laptop coming, ty guys
So basically you complained to your job about how poor this "work" laptop is and they supplied you with a better one? If so, congrats, good for you!

Makes sense though.
Oh hey boss, yea if you want me to work on THAT project, yea I'm going to need a better PC. This one is sorely lacking and outdated. I probably won't even be able to meet project dead-lines with this garbage of a PC. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:
