Headphones WAY Too Loud
I have Corsair H1500 Dolby 7.1 On Ear Gaming Headset (Refurbished). I know what you're thinking: "Well you bought a refurbished version dummy, there's your problem" but reviews on this item reveal that even the new version can work as a desktop speaker at full volume. Even if this is the problem, are there any programs to make the volume quieter? The headset works through USB. I am running Windows 8.1. I've also scowered control center and done almost everything there, but please post any suggestions down in case I haven't tried it.

There is a + and - volume control on the headset; hold that down as needed to raise/lower the headset volume. The middle button is to toggle the Mic on/off
Just turn the volume down. First thing I would do in that situation, lmao!

I like to keep my headset volume all the way up and control the volume with Windows.

It doesn't make a difference either way.

Either use the adjuster on the cord or turn down the volume through Windows.

The adjuster on the chord adjusts it in windows. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Close, but both volume mixer and windows sound have to be at 2 for the sound to be quiet enough.

I'm having the same problem. The adjuster on the cord changes the system volume, and it's honestly louder on 2 than your typical headset would be on 20. I downloaded the software and turned the settings to the lowest but it made almost no difference whatsoever. Someone on a forum said to install the old software, but frankly just get a replacement. I find them uncomfortable and the problem is fairly unsolvable. Get a roccat headset or something, this crap isn't worth the money you got in your pocket (Currently I have no money in my pocket, so that goes to show.). I'm having to deal with them until sunday before I can take them back for replacement.

I replaced that pair with a pair of logitech G430's a month or two ago. Would definetly reccomend those for a good pair of headphones, especially for the price. Has a good mic too.

I have a G230 myself. It had a great mic (until someone tried to bend it sideways thinking it could adjust, still salty about it) and the sound quality is great. It also has a clip-on piece with a simple volume adjuster, and what's most important to me, it ONLY needs 3.5mm Mic/Audio slots. No USB power required whatsoever.

Not to necropost, but I just got the same exact headphones (Corsair H1500 Dobly 7.1 USB Gaming Headset) and had the same exact problem... I had it on 1%, but that was too quiet, and 2% was louder than my usual volume preference (for music) of 26%.

To anyone who's looking for a solution now, go here and follow OP's instructions:
http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=123956

This will allow you to turn your volume WAY down.
I had to set "Preamp: -25 dB" for it to fit my preferences. It updates your headphones immediately when you save the text document.

Unless you have Volume Controls on your Keyboard; it makes more sense to have all volumes in the OS @ 100% then adjust whatever it playing at the time, using the Headset volume controls. As that is quicker to access compared to ALT+Tab and going into the OS Volume Mixer and making changes.
