Your PSU is insufficient, but I imagine you can swap that out without too much trouble.
Would recommend 650W.
Either way, I don't think that PSU can stay. You need more wattage.
That gives him $400 to play with.
Besides gaming I also use my PC for normal stuff like listening to music, browsing the web, downloading various programs, etc... Would the fact that my computer isn't dedicated JUST to gaming majorly affect my computer's performance while I'm gaming? It's not like I'd be running a bunch of programs in the background while I game but I'm just not sure if all the extra programs would affect the computer's performance significantly and cause my games to lag more and run worse.
Anything higher and you might as well save up for a new PC build.
Maybe an SSD and then clean install your OS to that.
Thanks. Would my PSU be in danger of overheating at all since the GTX 960 requires 400W?
Also, I see the GTX 960 comes in 2GB and 4GB. Which would you recommend?
And do you have any recommendations for an SSD?
Cant say anything about the 960, but for the SSD i would go for the Samsung Evo 850. The 120GB version costs about 68€ (75$). And ALWAYS dont try to save money with SPU. Better more power then you realy need. You can destroy your PC just by saving 20 bugs with overheating. All modules in your PC get effected by the temperature and less heat means better output.
It doesn't "require" 400W, it just recommends it as a minimum for the system. The card itself uses 120W. A 400W PSU will work fine.
4GB 960 only useful for high res textures. If you like texture modding and such (Skyrim, etc.) then it's better.
With your budget I wouldn't recommend an SSD. Rather, use the money to save up to get an i5 CPU and motherboard. That will give you more gaming performance and upgradeability.
Thank you very much for the advice. I apologize that I'm a noob to this stuff. I built this computer like 1 1/2 years ago and haven't been much in to computers since then so I lost what little knowledge I had.
So, would you say that by upgrading to a GTX 960 my computer could outperform or at least run as well as a PS4?
