i7-4790k or i7-5820k or i7-5930k
I'm working on building a new computer and am trying to decide between these two processors. Any suggestions? I'm using my computer for gaming and editing and photoshop, ect. Whats more worth it? Thanks

i7-5820K is better for editing and photoshop, i7-4790K for gaming.
How about i7-5930K, pretty much best for both worlds.

If you are trying to build this for reasonable money then i7-4790K, Z97 motherboard and DDR3 RAM is cheaper and it's still quite good for editing and photoshop.
Depends...

i7-4790k (Haswell Refresh - Devil's Canyon) CPU + Z97 Motherboard =
Ideal for gaming, faster single core processing. 4 cores (most games don't currently use more). DDR3 memory.

i7-5820k (Haswell-E) CPU + X99 Motherboard =
Better for editing and photoshop, faster core processing. 6 cores. DDR4 memory. Better overclocking. Overpriced?

---

If gaming is your main purpose, then get the i7-4790k!

i7 5820k is just fine for gaming.....3DMark and Unigine Benchmarks justify that, benchmark scores upper 97-98% globally.. At the same time I can also run virtual server for work related applications like a champ.

Might as well go all out on Intel Skylake Z170 and future proof, rather than a dead end LGA-2011-v3. I'm not saying it's bad (if you already have it, it's awesome), but purchasing at this point of time (2015+), I don't see the point? Anyways, it comes down to price difference really.

The i7-5820k is better in every way, it has lower starting Ghz but can be overclocked higher.

However, it's also about $85 more expensive or more when you factor in the price of the motherboard and maybe DDR4 RAM.
If I was to go the i7-5820k route, what is the best motherboard and RAM for it? Also would a 1000w PSU still be good with it if I used a GTX 980ti as well.
If I went the i7-4790k route would a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO be good enough? Also with a GTX 980 ti? I also saw the Cooler Master V8 GTS but with its size i'm not sure if it will block the ram and pci slots. Also the NH U14S but also worry about the ram and pci slot. If you know of a better one let me know.

The 5820k is a gimped 6 core CPU. Either go with the 5930k or stick with the socket 1150.
I forgot to mention, the prices I was talking about are Micro Center prices. If you buy an i7-5820k online it costs WAY more and is not worth it unless you are a professional video editor using the computer for their job. For casual editing I would say the i7-4790k is the best bet.

The Hyper 212 EVO is the best price vs cooling ratio there is. But it's still not an incredible cooler, it just does the job. Once you get beyond the $50 price point the coolers start becoming superior to the Hyper 212. If you really want massive cooling then get the NH-D14.

This can run two GTX 980 Ti no problem if needed.
So if I bought the i7-5930k would that be worth it? If so, whats a good motherboard and ram for that CPU?

he said gimped...how fkn funny..

i7 5820k 3.3GHz 6 Core
ASUS X-99-A (OC) Motherboard full ATX
Cooler Master Hyper212 Heat Sink
16Gb Adata XPG-Z1 2400MHz DDR4
EVGA GTX 980 Ti ACX 2.0 Superclocked 6Gb
2 x Samsung 850 Pros 250Gb SSD for OS Win 8.1 Pro 64bit (Raid 1)
1 x Seagate Hybrid SSHD 2Tb w/8Gb flash (for programs and gaming)
LG Super Multi DVDRW
LG Blu-Ray RW
Corsair CX750Watt 80 Plus Bronze Modular

he said gimped...LMFAO!!!

Wait, here's the newly built Z170 rig my son and I put together last week as well:

i5 6600k Skylake
Hyper 212 EVO
ASUS ROG Maximus Gene Z VIII Micro ATX
16 Gb G. Skill Ripjaw4 DDR4 2400Mhz
GTX 980 FTW
2 x Samsung 850 Pro 256Gb (OS Win 10 Pro 64 bit OS only Raid 1)
1 x Seagate Hybrid SSHD 2Tb w/8Gb flash (for programs and gaming)
LG Blu-Ray RW
Rosewill 1000W PSU 80 Plus Gold Modular

benchmarks for both are insane.

There's not a dam thing in that $1000 price tag that can justify a 5930k...nothing. Other than being dumb enough to show you have money to waste, with little return.

Get your facts straight, six-core i7-5930K costs around $570.
You are thinking about eight-core i7-5960X that costs $1000 and is indeed pointless for that money.

I think he's talking about his own country / currency? It's dang expensive / overpriced here too in NZ @ around the $1000 NZD mark, however that would be approx $630 USD - and that's just for the CPU alone (you still add in motherboard and memory, etc). Hense why I wouldn't personally recommend it (compared to a Z170 with would cost a less and be more future proofed - giving you similar or more performance in the long run), however over in other countries it might be a much better price tag, than we get here - need to compare and justify it for yourself.

Both the Haswell Refresh and Haswell-E are high-end for gaming purposes + more. You won't go wrong with either, just the price tag to look at.
