Asus m5a78l-m-usb3 am3+ is for AMD Processor, not an Intel Core Processor.
For Intel Processors, you have later generations (2nd Gen = Sandy Bridge, 3rd Gen = Ivy Bridge, 4th Gen = Haswell, 5th Gen = Broadwell, and 6th Gen = Skylake). These however need to match the CPU (It will say a LGA socket number on it).
Your GTX 780Ti can optimally support 1440p resolution at very high settings.
Ideally you would want for gaming purposes (awesome for maxed out gaming):
Z97 Motherboard (4th Gen - Haswell Refresh) with Intel Core i7-4790K CPU (Devil's Canyon) Processor
(this uses DDR3 memory)
or if you can afford (approx 15% more performance, for editing, etc):
Z170 Motherboard (6th Gen - Skylake) with Intel Core i7-6700K CPU Processor
(this will need DDR4 memory)
Consider looking at Gigabyte or ASUS RoG motherboards, however any cheaper ones should also do similar performance, it just will depends on additional features.
Out of those "maximus 6 extreme mother board from asus" from the list is the best Z87 motherboard. Some Z87-based motherboards support 'Devil's Canyon' CPUs, such as the Core-i7 4790K, but may require a BIOS update. One of the most important new features of the Z97 chipset is the addition of support for SATA Express and M.2, which will greatly increase maximum throughput for SSDs. I would strongly suggest Z97 over a Z87 motherboard, if you can afford it.
maximus 6 extreme is a z87 board, best for 4770k
and x79 is socket 2011, not a good choice for gaming rig
for an i7, you need a b85-h97-z97 board or newer
