win7 vs win10 performance
I have an old windows 7 laptop with a terrible amd e-450 cpu (dual core @ 1.65ghz). It performs very poorly even when nothing is running. And browsing the internet is just painfull.

I wonder if upgrading to windows 10 will improve the performance ?

Aww damn, i cant get win 8. Well that laptop is not actually mine so i don't really care that much. I will not have to use it.

Thanks anyway.
Go into MSCONFIG, to the Services tab, click on Hide all Microsoft Services, then uncheck all the on-MS services that you are not using.

They're just slowing down your already underpowered PC.

Thanks, will try that tomorrow in the morning. It's late and that old junk takes at least 5 minutes to boot up, if not longer...

I did check msconfig on my main pc and it looks like it could help reduce the load on that laptop. I just wonder if these changes stay after reboots ?

Hmmm, msconfig won't get blood from a stone but yes the settings will stick after reboot. The laptops biggest nemesis during boot up is the pos power saving low rpm hdd. Tbh, 1.65ghz dual core to surf the net is capable it's the bloatware, power saving options and hdd dragging it down.

I see no reason not to take win 10 if the laptop is entitled to the free upgrade, win 10 64 works better on my old intel b940 dual core pos laptop than it did with win 7 64.

This is wrong. 8 is not lighter than 10. I listed the sys requirements and they are no different.

Performance / resource usage wise:

Basically performance was already much better than 7 in 8.1 so they didn't do much to improve it in 10 but theres no way it is worse, just check benchmarks:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2949894/windows/windows-10-vs-windows-8-performance-benchmarks-show-a-close-battle-for-fastest.html

You'll see it's either not that different, or that 10 is slightly faster in most cases.

the min req on 10 is very low, but with specs lower than 8 it will not run very well at all

the amd e450 is a netbook level cpu
