Do I have to keep Afterburner open to keep GPU OC'd?
When I don't have MSI Afterburner open, will GPU OC turn off too? Also if I freshly boot PC with no afterburner will I still have OC'd settings turned on from before?

Doesn't it load some stuff in the background?

If you overclock, then close it, the overclock should stay.

Not 100% sure about overclock on boot/OS load, as I don't own any MSI boards to test it on currently.

msi afterburner works with any pc
Yeah, but I don't need to install it, so I am not going to.

I'm also not a fan of MSI products after the bad capacitors on their motherboards debacle and the issues they have with their AMD motherboards VRM's, etc. failing.

Thus I'm not about to install their software, especially on a non-MSI motherboard PC.

Every time you uninstall stuff it leaves gunk in the registry and stray files around and I just rebuilt my PC the other day.

OC and Fan Changes will stay after u close it.
However for that to be effective u need Afterburner in OS Startup and also have the "OC on Startup" checked in the app. So your settings in AB are actually applied each OS startup.

Without "OC apply at startup" after a reboot, AB will startup with the Defaults as far as GPU Clocks / Fan % goes.

For safety reasons, when u are testing new settings on a GPU; leave "apply OC at startup" turned off. That way if the OC or changes you make in that app cause lock-ups or BSoD (like an un-stable OC u applied) then a reboot won't have AB re-applying those un-stable settings.

So toggle that on/off as needed. When you're settings are know to be stable, then you can use "apply OC at startup" for everyday use.

i know its an old thread but i dont care. i thought afterburner kept both oc's and fan curves once closed or if the apply at startup was checked and the program was not running. but now for some reason afterburner keeps the oc butt he fan profile changes when i start afterburner. maybe there is somehting wrong or maybe its because i just added a second card but as i am wrinting oc's on my system do not need AB running but fan profiles do. a reboot may change this but i cant right now. i always thought fan curves loaded with the oc's at startup if you have apply settings at startup checked but apparently it only loads the oc's and the custom fan curves need AB running in order to stay in place. if i am wrong about this im sory but if you are having this problem then this is why. you have to keep AB running to keep your fan curves
