Bluetooth Issues Windows 8.1
So i have windows 8.1 and all of a sudden today my bluetooth stopped working. I found that this is a problem many have, and I went through many steps such as uninstalling drivers, starting services ,updating the registery as recommended, and even doing a system restore but to no avail. My problem now is that i have deleted all traces of Bluetooth from the Device Manager except for the Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth Bus. I have gone to my laptops (Lenovo) website and downloaded the most recent drivers but they do not show up in the device manager or say that they are needed. Is there something other than a driver i need to install? Because im sure my hardware is still in the computer :/ Thanks.

did you 'accidentally' turned off your bluetooth device?

(a cousin had experienced a defective wifi but when i checked his laptop it turned out he 'accidentally' turned it off; fixed by pressing Fn + F8 keys)

I would check the BIOS then if you have built in features like WiFi & BT
Best bet is ensure it's enabled from the BIOS, if anything disable the hotkey so you can't accidentally disable it in your OS that way; making it stay on all the time (long as driver is installed) and then say for example; in WinOS if want to disable things like LAN, WiFi, BT; do that from the Device Manager as a means of easy Disable/Enable. That way toggle hotkeys won't get in your way.

Most laptops have the WiFi & BT running of a single mini-PCIE card and thus it may be installed/controlled via one driver suite. If that is the case, check that software suite for that and ensure that "BT" is actually enabled.

Most Laptops I use have some sort of Intel mini-PCIE card in them; which includes WiFi & BT > Wireless N, AC, and BT and as such u have one Driver suite & software from which to toggle any 3 of those features.

On a laptop model website where u get Drivers & Software, that usually may list more then what YOUR laptop has, due to the various configuration options that were available for that model. They usually were offered with variety of WiFi/BT/4G cards, etc. and as such u may see drivers on the device model's site that do not actually pertain to what yours has.

I would just refer to the PDF Manual on there relating to your model; and see what it says referring to "Bluetooth" and such.

I had some hope that my bluetooth was working today but that was quickly dashed. I decided to do a system restore again and out of the blue it worked, except it kept on searching for devices and eventually stopped working and disappeared from the windows pc settings again.
I checked the quallcomm adapterand noticed that it said that the device couldnt start so i tried installing new drivers yet again and even the bluetooth suite and that came to nothing. Each time i would try the little yellow triangle would disappear but then reappear again. Sometimes the bluetooth adapter renames itself generic bluettooth adapter. I may have some one look at my pc but im not to hopeful.

This might just force me to update to windows 10 to see if the problem is fixed although id rather not...

Could be the card that has the BT on it is faulty.

I just had to replace a mini-PCIE WiFi+BT mini card in my mom's 2011 Alienware cause the BT stopped working (similar to your issue) and her WiFi kept random restarting/dropping.

New card, now WiFi+BT works great.

Lenovo has a few specific "features":
1 unreliable components for all models, except the ThinkPad series, inherited from IBM - very often broken camera module and WiFi, Bluetooth
2 accessories manufacturer changes without notice, and as a result for a particular laptop model is suitable only driver that has been pre-installed and located on the hard disk of a laptop - the driver from the shipped CD or from the official support site is not suitable.
3 recently, in search of the driver, working with the W10, I found that you can use drivers from other series notebook, but to find out what kind of approach you need to re-read many forums
4 Not on all Lenovo models WiFi and Bluetooth are on a single card, Bluetooth can sometimes be in the form of small board, connected via a flat cable

because of the all above, currently Lenovo + W10 it's Hell on Earth :(

Lenovo cheap, and easy for self-service, but if your IT\DIY level is lower than rotNdude or Bad-Motha, better pay attention to something else, really

yeah hopefully the situation isnt that dire because my warranty ran out just a couple months ago. I have tried the other drivers such as realtek but they were of no use for a quallcomm card was of no use. computer isnt too old only about a year and a few months.

I had an issue with my pc not connecting to a specific wifi network recently while other devices did, so there might be something linked there.

Yea just get a new WiFi/BT card and try it.

On the bottom you generally may have 3 panels that are easily removable; giving access to your HDD, RAM, Expansion Card (such as mSATA or mini-PCIE) So u can look and see what card it's using exactly. I don't understand why you are guessing with Drivers. Just look at the card itself.

What is the full Lenovo model? So we can see what WiFi/BT card that uses, or can accept.

intuition did not fail me - hell on earth 11 of 10
lowend notebook with bagged WiFi and BT + overheat + Peripherals often goes to sleep, it is recommended to disable the device settings + 802.11n only mode on router

yea thats what eventually was happening with my mom's Alienware, the WiFi card was overheating and then the WiFi just cuts out. It would auto come back again, but it wouldn't last.

I tried disable Sleep modes, even for the NICs, tried configuring the NIC for various power and roaming levels; none of that helped.

Replaced it with new Intel WiFi AC + BT mini-PCIE card and works great.
