I'll go first.
Its good to maintain your Windows computer every so often by using System File Checker.

Go to Command Prompt, and run as Administrator.

Type in "sfc /scannow" to let it check for system integrity violations and repair them for you.

If it finds any corrupt files and repairs them, be sure to run "sfc /scannow" again just in case there's any further issues lurking on your computer.

Keep all your files off your os partition so that way if you need format you don't have to worry about all that on top of formatting. You can just format knowing nothing will be wiped.

Tnc hostname -port X to check connection to a device on certain port

Dxdiag for hw info

Ipconfig / all for NIC and network info

Diskpart and it's many parameters

Netstat -an for port traffic

I'm dumping Windows once support for 10 ends, but with a fresh installation, the first things to do are Get-AppxPackage * | Remove-AppxPackage, change ownership permissions of C:\Program Files\WindowsApps and wipe them there to actually free up the space.

Then disable the unwanted background services like the xbox schlock.

The install ClassicShell.

Then delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace {0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A} and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace {0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A} to get rid of that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 3D Objects folder,

And set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation\RealTimeIsUniversal to keep it from resetting the system clock to local.

And install shutup10.

Common windows commands:

sfc.exe /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
chkdsk /f (or /r, but only if it's an HDD)
netstat -a and ipconfig /all
ping and tracert
shutdown -s -t is often useful

If you ever need to use the recovery console, you'll probably end up using bootrec and diskpart.

Also, MBR2GPT has been a lifesaver.

Go to settings/privacy and start turning stuff off.

Can turn off superfetch in windows if your are using an ssd. Press windows key and type services and click on services. Then stop and disable sysmain. Maybe as well stop and disable connected user experience and telemetry and distributed link tracking client.

Turn off windows fast start up and shut down your pc and start it again.

Power and sleep settings/additional power settings/choose what the power buttons do and uncheck the box next to turn on fast startup.


Uninstall stuff like one drive, office, etc... you don't use.

Can run the browser in a sandbox or protected to attempt to keep your pc cleaner from the internet. Can also disable prefetch in whatever browser you are using. Tons of stuff to change in browsers but not necessary. Enable HTTPS-Only Mode in all windows. In the browsers internet settings can also use enable DNS over https and use cloud flare?

Might want to run your pc on a non admin account.

Can run crystal disk info, some temperature monitoring program and a memory test to see how stuffs doing.

No one can blame you.

For reasons unknown, Microsoft hates us creating and customizing our own icons. Even if you setup your own personalized themes for your folder icons via DLL files you can create via 'Resource Hacker', you'll encounter problems because File Explorer is poorly optimized and folders will open slowly or your newly created icons fail to display.

In Windows 10, your icon cache file size is a pathetic 500 KB by default. But you can increase it.

Sign in as Administrator. Open Registry Editor.
Go to the Registry key:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

On the right side of the window, create (or modify) a new string (REG_SZ) value "Max Cached Icons"

The Edit String window will pop up. Set the value data for "Max Cached Icons" to "4096" (4 MB). Or to "8192" (8 MB) if you desire.

Restart Windows 10.

I suggest using windows for as little as possible. For me it is for games only.
I suggest looking at windows debloat to make it make efficient.

Do not use it for anything important. Look at the windows terms and conditions to find out why.

Linux is the obvious solution. There are many applications available free.
Typically on windows that is not the case.

Learn how to setup and use a server. Yuotube has plenty of choice.
There are various types. use an old machine.
My decade old i7 ivy bridge was great in its time, but now a server:
NAS, router, lancache amongst other things.

All the software involved is free and mainly linux based.

Edit: On and on windows, I suggest mactium reflect for backups. It can be setuo to do regular backups.
Oh and also I do not keep the User data on the C: drive - document -game saves and such.

If you are an Ork , using red strips on the case makes the computer run faster and yellow ones for an explosive improvement of performance and brute force.

Less is best format every year and buy a cheap laptop for the stuff you would normally do. I only install steam and games no AV no nothing. You wont see many sub 50us rigs around but i have one and thats how i did it.


Normal bloat rigs 70us idle 80us gaming. Mine 5us idle 44us in games. Almost half thier latency!

No, but the drink's acidity can clean old coins.

However, this ruins the collectors value. People want a coin's original unhampered surface, they want to see tarnish, patina and oxidation because these are normal, and should never be tampered with.
