Do you have the GTX (Get Windows 10) icon on your bottom-right taskbar?
Click on that, then under the three line menu button, you should find a "Check Compatibility" option. If that application itself is telling you it's ready, then Microsoft has made 95% sure it's 100% compatible. It might otherwise list hardware, applications, or drivers not supported.
If you have downloaded the media manually and forced installation, then you won't get this compatibility check.
Win 10 can support some drivers from Win 7 and Win 8.1, however it will update what it can during that installation process.
Once installed, it will actually make a copy of your previous Operating System under "Windows.old", which it keeps for at least a month or longer (if you have the space). At any time, you can actually go under Start > Settings > Updates & Security > Recovery > Go back to your previous OS.
Right after the upgrade, I would strongly suggest checking under Start > Settings > Privacy. Also, under Updates & Security > Windows Updates > Advanced Options > Choose how updates are delivered. As Win 10 defaults to spyware / adware like settings (you can disable it). Like P2P (Peer to Peer) window updates, who in their right mind would consider that a nice feature to have... downloading/uploading updates to/from other random PCs in the network (wasting your bandwidth without your knowledge and if a virus manages to bypass the security check to discard it, end up being the worlds fastest spending malware).
while we have different hardwares, more likely than not, windows 10 installation will be a breeze.
