is it good/bad to limit 'Max battery charge' to 75 or 80% ?
I use my gaming rig all the time to work and play games. Is it safe to limit the battery charge to 80% for good battery lifespan ?

Am I gonna see performance degradation ? is this gonna affect my GPU ?

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated....

Thanks.

As for performance, most gaming laptops throttle down when on battery power. If they were to go full tilt, they'd drain the battery so quickly it would literally overheat and burst into flame. You need to be plugged in when gaming if you want the full power of the hardware.

Besides that, charge level in itself has no effect on performance.
Keeping it between 30 and 85% is good. Especially if plugged in without loading.

Lithium based batteries are not considered to have a memory effect - that is mostly for older tech like nicad and nimh, which are not commonly found in laptops.

Limiting charge percentage will increase battery life. If you have a Dell laptop, there are bios options to set it.

Leave it plugged in while gaming, so you get full performance.

You shouldn't let the battery sit there, in some closet, for prolonged periods of time while fully charged of fully discharged. But when it comes to using your laptop regularly'ish, let the battery charge electronics handle that topic on your behalf. Rule of thumb: unless it's the cheapest crappies piece of Chinaware you could find, the manufacturer generally has a good concept of how the battery likes to be treated.

battery charging is interesting
and worth the time to gather a small bit of knowledge
on the subject....

There is no reason to fully load a battery if you dont need it, while its also plugged in.

Actually you never know if 0% or 100% are the actual numbers. So the rule of thumb is: Between 30% and 85% is optimal.
To store it it may lose 5% per month, so keep that in mind to stay in that range.
