youtube buffers every few seconds when playing 8k 60 fps videos on my pc, why? how to fix?
I remember this wasn't an issue when I built this pc back in 2019, I'm using 3900X 2070S 32GB RAM NVME SSD with windows 10 pro... and I can see the internet buffers status on the playback bar is fine...

yet the video keep buffering every 3 seconds or so... and I swear I remember this wasn't an issue before, I don't remember when this issue started, possibly after one of those sneaky chrome update or/and windows update.especially the H2 2020 update or something.

any clue as to what's going on here? how do I fix this?

so I checked, the pc can play standard 8k 30 fps video just fine, no hiccups whatsoever as long as my internet is not dropping, same goes with 4k 60 fps videos... so it's only 8k 60 fps videos that suffers from constant buffering... and I noticed that it is a 3 seconds interval, so the video buffers every 3 seconds in playback although the internet buffer status on the video playback bar is proceeding normal...

as if there's something very specific hindering the pc here... any idea?

Your internet is not fast enough.

But the buffer bar looks normal and is way ahead of the playback section just like it is on any other video quality.

I think for 4k internet video you need at least 25mo/s
For 8k you need more , maybe 30/35mo/s I think

I have this ( 35mo/s ) and I can play easily 8k video

Or maybe you graphic card, too weak for 8k
Check you GPU/CPU usage

A 8k video on youtube take 30/50% GPU usage for me ( RTX 3080 )

A 2070 Super clearly is fast enough for 8k video playback.

True, but his internet or NIC or even just the video hes watching could be at fault.

And then theres the possibility of Peak usage in his area being the cause when it comes to high bandwidth content.

With that said, OP can try power cycling his Router/Modem and clearing his browser and dns cache.

How so? My GPU barely being used to according to msi afterburner, only 20% or something, same as CPU.

As for internet, I can get 100 mbps bandwidth.

The thing is, as I stated numerous times in my post, if my memory isn't wrong, this wasn't the case when the pc was new.

Besides, it's very strange that the buffering state occurs every 3 seconds.

I didnt say your GPU was at fault.

It could simply just be Youtube struggling with that video at that resolution. it does have video issue moments now n then.

If you think it feels less "snappy" you can always format and reinstall.

I still suggest trying the power cycle and cache clears though.

What web browser are you using?
Also 100Mbps ISP download speed is basically the minimum.
When I had Comcast 105Mbps I had this issue too, once they switched me over to where I was getting 250+ I was fine. But also YT is always iffy anyways. It can sometimes depend where the video is being hosted from. As it could be on a YT server; lets say over in Europe and you are within USA and that video is not being mirrored on other servers, then it could easily run into buffer issues.

If its that bad, just download the whole video and then watch it. You can download anything and everything off of YT 100% free.

Sigh, so basically nobody knows....

I'm using Chrome btw...

most likely its the connection
check bandwidth usage while streaming, if its pegged at the download limit, thats the problem
lower stream quality to 1080
most use 4k+ for the higher bandwidth that can make 1080p look better

Buffering typically happens when the download speed is slower than playback speed. Too many devices on network, poor connection or maybe video quality, 8k is a lot of data.

Also as Bad Motha pointed out, the host site may be slow or experiencing difficulties.

Well to be sure I checked, my internet streams at 60-100 mbps for a few seconds before dropping and then continue... This has been the way YouTube works for years, you can't stream the entire video when opening a YouTube video today, you could back then in 2010 or something.

I see nothing wrong with my internet connection... Just this inexplicable 3 seconds interval persistent buffering whenever I stream 8k60 videos from YouTube.

Is there any other free streaming site that have 8k60 videos so I can try? If the issue persist then I can lean more suspicion toward my hardware.

Have you enabled gpu hardware acceleration?

Control panel/system/display graphic settings. This should make the gpu do the rendering instead of the cpu, gpu is much better at it.

(assume your running latest driver).
