gsync/freesync is best on displays over 120hz on systems that cant hold that high of fps
if you enable gsync/freesync it will lower the refresh rate to match the gpus output
but dropping too low will still look like a slideshow
1. It doesn't drop below 60.
2. On HDMI G-Sync doesn't work that's why I'm asking
3. It's a 144hz Monitor. It just doesn't support HDMI 144Hz probably due to data restrictions of that HDMI implementation. DP supports 144Hz.
Linus tested G-Sync years ago, that might be worth checking out. V-sync is a bit of a mess if you can't meet your monitors refresh rate/a multiple of it, that's what makes G-sync so good. We see the issues consoles in particular have with it. If you can lower some settings to exceed 75fps, you should have a smoother experience with V-sync.
So if I lower the settings a bit to get the 5fps increase it should be better? Although I don't plan to drop the settings to meet a 1% low of 75fps. That would probably be insane but a average of 75fps should be no big deal. (Edit: Alright. Thanks a lot!)
In general I find Linus to be a bit. Let's say surface level and more on the entertainment side.
But I'll check it out.
I adjusted the AA to low and activated my OC. GPU isn't fully utilized now but I think it feels as smooth as it gets with that refresh rate. Would it make a difference If I also activate the ingame FPS limiter?
Due to the fact that I realy fkn love HDR I probably need to find a way to make HDMI work as good as possible. Atleast for HDR Games.
but if it works, it works great.
Without traditional vsync, it's harder to notice frame drops, since vsync introduces microstutters. And you get the advantage, of not having annoying tearing on your screen.
Only problem is that only few games were able to use it. Many just didn't work, while some others just worked fine.
But adaptive sync is a cool tech. I'd recommend getting it. Just hope for you that gsync works better in games than freesync did for me.
Could you tell us what monitor model were talking about ?
edit : What exactly prevents you from using a DP cable ? And yes, G-Sync/Free-Sync is something you dont want to miss.
G-Sync works flawless in any game. At least for me it does.
So general fps management is the only thing I can do? Keeping fps to 75 is no bigger problem atleast in the averages. But I realy hoped there is more I could do.
This is a serious Thread. Atleast for me it is. LG 38WN95C.
HDMI allows Deep black mode. DP doesn't. That's why I'm using HDMI for Games I play in HDR.
Yeah, that 1% is what makes V-sync work. The games trying to show you a 75fps image, but if it's not actually achieving that then issues will arise. If you want to keep the same visual settings you could always try and lower the frame-rate target? 60fps would be an easily achievable target, and should still look as good!
What is "Deep Black"-Mode. Do you mean "HDMI Deep Color" ? DP is superior to HDMI in terms of literally everything. You name it.
This is a great monitor ,but it doesnt make much sense to use HDR on a monitor with 450cd/m². The contrast ratio isnt just big enough to display the fullHDR range and it makes it look kind of "washed out".
Thats why HDR400/600 / monitors with 300-500nits are called "Fake-HDR" and its suggested to turn it off.
If I were you, I would buy a DP1.4 cable and enjoy GSync. This doesnt make much sense. :)
But then again, its up to you.

Capping it to 60 seems odd to me as 75Hz is 25% more frames. But that's something I could test too. Thanks.
I just put the settings to english. In English it's called Black level. You can set it to low or high.
That's actually how I came up with HDMI because I was wondering how I could change that setting because whatever I did it stayed grayed out. So I tested HDMI.
When I set the value to low on HDMI and turned back to DP the setting still showed low but the image was clearly like using the high value.
I love this Monitor and I aknowledge it's up's and down's with HDR. It's actual peak brightness goes to 700nits when in HDR Mode. I think it's is the 10% peak brightness. It's good in games where you are a lot outside and don't need the local dimming. In games like Tomb Raider it's awfull because the local dimming makes it almost look like a dimming on/off firework
sustained might be 450.
Regarding deep black mode I specified it on the post above. But in german the black level mode shows "deep" and "high"
I have a DP 1.4 Cable.
The monitor is faking 700nits, the actual output is 450nits. Leave HDR off you're literally ruining your picture quality.
As for the deeper blacks, use DP and go into your nvidia settings and set the color space from limited to full under "output dynamic range", color output depth to 10bit, and Output color format to RGB.
