That is how Mobile Hybrid GPUs work; unless in a Desktop.
The dedicated must also use the onboard GPU in order to push the data through frame-buffer and then to the screen.
If you want to use the NVIDIA GPU, set that to be the default in NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings
Best bet now is uninstall all the NVIDIA Drivers & Software from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Reboot as needed. Then uninstall the Intel Graphics Drivers. Reboot as needed.
Then install latest Intel HD GPU Drivers; reboot
Install latest NVIDIA Geforce Mobile (700M series) Drivers; reboot.
Set NVIDIA as the default one under NVIDIA-CP
Did u ensure u clicking APPLY after making such a change in NVIDIA Control Panel?
You can then download and run GPU-Z and let it run in background while u run a benchmark or play a game for testing purposes; then switch back to GPU-Z > notice the selection at bottom there for GPU(s) Intel vs NVIDIA and see if there are high load on the NVIDIA. If so, then it is being used properly.
If you not getting good performance; well that is because both Intel HD series and NVIDIA 720M are quite poor for gaming in general anyways.
Notice : I'll try all of your tricks and I'll give news as soon as possible.
So don't expect much better FPS out of the NVIDIA 720M
But overall the NVIDIA should support more graphical features than the Intel, and many games have issues running on any Intel GPU, so yea... GPUZ can show u what GPU is actually being used and such when under loads via DirectX/OpenGL apps/games.
it will be much better for ogl games, but dx performance will be very close
both are still used when the nvidia card is in use
the nvidia card creates the frames for the intel hd to display
