Motherboard won’t recognize my new ram?
I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar issue. I own a A78M-E35 (MS-7721) motherboard and usually when you install ram (I believe) it becomes recognized by the motherboard and the extent of your work is putting the stick in the slot. Once I did this the computer would not start up. I reinstalled the previous 4 gigabyte and the computer worked fine. After contacting MSI they informed me that my version installed into my motherboard needs to be updated and maybe then it might work. I don’t want to spend more money on another motherboard but this 4 gig of ram is causing a large amount of FPS drops and I want to play some fallout 4 but I’ve been informed that I would have to play on low setting and this kind of sucks due to my decent specs. Gtx Nvidia 960 and an AMD a10 7850K. If anyone has a solution I would be extremely grateful.

Download and run this.

Look at the tabs for memory and SPD. I'm guessing you have manual RAM settings in the BIOS and you may need to reset the BIOS to get the new RAM to work. The bad thing is, you may not get the old RAM to work after you do a BIOS reset. You really need to figure out what the new RAM is.
I might reset the bios but with the info I've been told by reps at msi I might want to hold back on it unless this is the last option. Past this I have CPU z it can only inform you on installed ram.
A little more information on the RAM might help. Maybe I'm missing something, but what did you startout with for RAM, a single 4gb stick? And what did you upgrade to, 1 larger stick, two new ones, or a single new stick of RAM?

i know it can feel pretty daunting to undertake something like a bios flash, but it could be your last option.

maybe this will help.

Is the new ram identical to your old ram, and by that i mean make, model speed

i.e. Corsair vengeance ddr3 1866............. if you can marry up these two details then maybe you have a chance, oither wise without being able to clarify what you have it might end up a live and learn exercise.

(we've all been there at some point)

P.S. If you can check it in another pc to see if it is recopgnised that would be a help to you.

Good luck Jomosofy

(you could alwsays try posting on cybertechhelp.com or tomshardware)

I'm looking for information on the RAM you have installed now.
Update your BIOS, install new RAM, should be fine.

I wen't from 4 gb to 8 gb. All single sticks.
Since u can't seem to boot up with the new RAM; remove both and then put down in here what info is on them.

Going by the Part# and/or Model# we can find the full specs for that.

If the RAM all differ too much, they usually will not work together. Which is why is best to either always go by the specs of the original RAM; or simply remove that old RAM and buy a kit, or ones of same model so they match perfectly. Otherwise they generally will not work together well in the same system/board.

If the RAM is not supported that can stop it from working
If when you installed the RAM sticks you inserted them wrong that can stop it from working, if you damaged the DIMM slots when you inserted the RAM that could also stop it from working if the RAM is still in the slot.

My guess is you put the RAM in the wrong way.. When you put the RAM in did the 2 snaps click into place?

As for Fallout4, your GPU is fine, the CPU on the other hand you may end up losing a little performance. but i think youd be able to do more than Low settings.
Specs should be ok to do a mix of Med/High (with Ultra Textures) for Fallout4

I'd first select High Preset > then Highest AA and AO > 1080p res (or whatever is your native screen res) and then click Advanced and put Textures=Ultra; both Shadow settings=Medium; Motion Blur=Off ~ and try that.
