exact brand/model of motherboard?
MSI twin frozr r9 280x
12gb 1600mhz ram (only 8gb showing)
Asus rampage gene iii
6 slots: max 24GB DDR3 (2,200MHz)
how many modules, what size, and placement on the memory slots?
my bad the ram is 2200mhz not 1600
each stick is 4gb and I have them placed on each of the red slots
good idea, thanks!
RAM is technically the life blood of a PC so you really dont want to run the risk of there being problems with the RAM sticks..
Try each RAM module on it's own to verify that they work if they do then the problem is with the board.
Update to the latest available BIOS
Do they all show up if you drop the speeds to the JEDEC 1333MHz profile and drop out when overclocked or the XMP profile is applied?
Is your system overclocked?
Do all modules show in CPU-Z but not in Task Manager/Windows System Properties?
Make sure your memory IMC is set up right for the RAM, typically QPI = 1.2V and DRAM = 1.5V works well.
Sometimes these boards would fail to run the third RAM module.
Also list the Make/Model/Timings of the RAM sticks you are using, it could be a simple mismatch.
And finally, post a CPU-Z Validation link like this: http://valid.x86.fr/ca2r2n
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here
and what os?
win 7/vista home basic have a 8g ram limit
I've concluded that it's the middle slot that is faulty, each ram stick works in the other slots so they're fine.
Right now in the red channel, I have one ram stick in the first and one in the third slot with the middle one vacant. Would that be fine to run? or would there be problems? I am looking to replace the motherboard but that's going to have to be in a few months.
If you have a can of compressed air or something similar you could try blowing out the DIMM slot, see if that does anything.
But if you're going to replace the board sometome you may as well save up and get a modern board/cpu.
nice, thanks!
is my cpu considered old now? its the i7 990x after I got this build like over a year ago I've stopped following new cpu's and motherboards that have come out
