R9 390 vs GTX 970?
Few days ago, some guys were helping me choosing new pc parts.
My local store already has some new GPUs.
But now i dont know which one should i buy.
Which one is better now and will have a better "futureproof"? Because i really hope i can play at least 4 years.

GPUs:

R9 390:
-Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 G1 Gaming 8 GB

GTX 970:
-EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 4 GB

-Asus GeForce GTX 970 STRIX 4 GB

-EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW 4 GB

-Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4 GB

-Zotac GeForce GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core Edition 4 GB

Thank you again guys!

390 4GB is the sweet spot if you can find one, if not get a 290X 4GB, same card, slightly lower clocks.

Don't think a 390 4gb card exists? did you mean a 290 4gb? those 2 gpus use the same core. but the 390 has double the ram capacity, faster ram speed, less power draw, and more OC headroom. both variants have 2,560 stream processors. 160 Texture Mapping Unit's, 40 Compute Units.

the 390x / 290x are the same cores. 2816 Stream Processors, 176 Texture Mapping Units, 44 Compute Units. Vram is also doubled in the R9 390x compared to the 290x.

I guess, both of you are AMD fanboys. I said that these 2 cards are on par. You, without any
convincing arguments say that "r9 390 is clear winner here".
Doesn't matter that many test can prove otherwise.

I own both Nvidia and AMD products. both are great companys. i posted videos above of several benchmarks proving which is the better card for the $$. and from personal experience (i own both 970 and 390). so no... i'm not the fanboy here. nice try though?

I can show benchmarks of the GTX 970 winning by 5-10 FPS at 1080p resolution, yet the R9 390 performing better at 4K UltraHD by 5 FPS... however, it's all just getting down to personal taste and what you want it for, plus what is 5-10 FPS difference (depending on each individual game, in this case it was GTA 5). There's not too much difference, but rather pros and cons for each. Why fight about it? Just let the post owner decide for himself, either way ain't that bad.

You'd like evidence?

R9 290 is on par with GTX 970.

R9 390 and R9 290X are both ahead.

Brand new card, probably hard to find like I said...

Um, the 390 isn't even on that chart.

390 offers the same performance as 290X.

The 290 is the exact same gpu as the 390. just add a couple more % to performance due to its faster and larger ram. other than that its the exact same.

You should also bear in mind that AMD never pays people to present their products in a positive light on forums like this:

Hey have you heard about GPUopen? AMD just announced it. it's almost like an "Ace in the hole" response to gameworks. and above all its open source!!

Yes. I know. Doesn't change the fact that the 970 and the 390 are nearly evenly matched. There is no "clear winner" despite what you keep saying.

anandtech.com/show/9784/the-amd-radeon-r9-380x-review/

(Yes that's a 380x review but it has the 970 and the 390 on the charts too.)

The new hierarchy is the following: (just to upset the fanboys) :steammocking:

370>950
270X=960
380>>960
285>960
280X>>960
R9 290>970 @4k
R9 290=970 @1440p
R9 290=780 Ti
R9 290X>780 Ti
R9 390>970
R9 390X>980
R9 Fury>>980
R9 Fury X=980 Ti
R9 295X2>980 Ti
R9 295X2> Titan Z
R9 295X2> Titan X
