I can't really see what you'd use from the previous system.
GTX 750 Ti even running an Intel board & CPU won't cut it for playing & streaming.

So I am hoping you are just going to be building a whole new system around the new board & CPU.

Just name the budget and what all you need part-wise. We can help with whatever suggestions.

If you are overclocking, no point in spending more on a K suffix model that is unlocked for overclocking.

Comparisson

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Xeon-E3-1230-v3-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4790K

Xeon is more server orientated (EEC memory controller, DDR3 1.5v)
i7 is more desktop (non-EEC memory controller, DDR3L 1.35v, higher clock, integrated graphics - handy as a backup if your GPU flops)

Keep in mind, you will need DDR3L (lower power) DIMMS if you go i7 and full power DDR3 DIMMs on the Xeon. Also, ECC memory is not cheap I imagine.

Why are you paying for an OVERCLOCK ready processor (K suffix)? Is it cheaper than clock locked processors? Why do you want a server processor? If you want to save money, you can get an i5. Same as an i7 except without HyperThreading (faux cores via pipeline tricks).

Ok, listen up people, uses CPU-WORLD, Intel ARK and CPUBOSS (and GPUBOSS etc) sites to check up on processors.

Xeon does not require ECC; but that is preferred for Server usages.

And no Intel Desktop boards "require" 1.35V RAM with regards to DDR3. They just support that, so it is a lower power option when buying. I would not use those low power DDR3 in a gaming oriented setup though, and they aren't any cheaper and do virtually no difference to your overall system power usage/power bills.

I use laptops so they make a hell of a difference :) But sure, you don't have to use ECC, the memory controller (onboard the processor) supports it, however, are you sure the Xeon board can use DDR3? I imagine some may use DDR3L for lower temps in the server rack stack (it also reduces bills when you have lots of racks stacked on a big scale :) ). So be sure that it can use DDR3. Xeon is rack, i7 (etc) is desktop.

Go i5 if you want to save money. Forget about the Xeon if money is the concern.

I would go i7 (or i5) and forget about Xeon if it was me.

the gpu is fine for what i need right now, most the games i play are cpu intensive and i would need to multi task.

You're just adding confusion... *sigh*

U can stick a Xeon an your average LGA-1150 board ok, nothing "special" required.
And u keeping talking about DDR3 and DDR3L: that is a Laptop thing ok. Yes u can buy 1.35V RAM for desktop boards, but there really is no point. DDR3 doesn't even get hot, and u don't need the lesser power to extend battery life; again these are advancements more inclined to help laptop/mobile based setups.

If the board supports, it sure, no point up to you, if it doesn't, then, you have no choice :) It is up to the board not you :)

Ok fine, BUY THE XEON. I can just agree and save arguement :) After all it's not MY money im spending :)

I would go i5 if it was me to save money, drop the K suffix models (paying for something you don't want to use), or i7. I wouldn't touch the Xeon if it was me :)

I give all the processor info from cpu-world, Intel ark and cpuboss. cpu boss even has pewtty graphs. You decide :)

Well of course the chosen Motherboard has to support the Xeons; but there is "special" socket or other requirements outside of that needed.

Like any board choice, u have to look over what CPUs are supported too. Just cause same socket doesn't mean the board supports THAT CPU. Sure I agree with u there.

i looked on part picker and the board i want is compatible with the xeon e3-1230v3 and my ram.

Why are you set on the Xeon?

So, don't buy a K suffix? K means UNLOCKED, why pay for a feature that won't be used.

You can always import :) (Hong Kong or from anywhere in the EU for example).

170 series Intels require DDR3L RAM, Previous Intels such as x6/7/8/9 boards use normal 1.5v RAM.

Being as youre switching from AMD to Intel keep these things in mind
1: You'll have to format your HDD and reinstall Windows, different chipsets/sockets means it'll blue screen on boot most likely if you dont format first due to the differences in drivers.

2: Naturally since youre switching to Intel you'll need a new Motherboard as well. If you FULLY dont plan on overclocking go for an H97 motherboard.. Though, if you think there MAY be a chance you'll overclock some day, go with a Z97 board..

The i7 would more than likely be better for streaming and recording.

the k series is about £10 more they are the same price so what would be the point in not getting it, pluse the i7 4790k has a higher base clock rate than the i7 4790.

Well, that is £10 wasted since it was previously stated it wouldn't be overclocked. I don't care but just saying, it's your money not mine :)
