Gaming Laptop
Alright, so I've been saving for a new gaming laptop. Currently, I have a ASUS laptop (not ROG) with 6GB or RAM, a 1.6 GhZ processor, and an Intel integrated graphics card. So pretty ♥♥♥♥ for games. For example, if i turn skyrim's settings all the way down, below low, i still only get about 40 fps. So I'm looking into a couple laptops, but my price range seems to have mostly the same specs. So if i had a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 2GB, a 2.6 GhZ processor, and 16 GB of ram, how well would i fare in, say, Skyrim? Or any other game of reference. Thanks!!

Better. Far better. Integrated is the Worst.
Oh yeah, I know it's better by Miles. I I was just wonder how good it is, exactly because I do have a limited budget.

There's a page of combined mobile GPU benchmarks in games.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html

On that webpage you can choose to "restrict" displayed info for both game (choose Skyrim) and graphics card (choose 960M).

The webpage says Skyrim is playable on Ultra settings at 1920x1080. It does not show FPS for this particular GPU-and-game combination but a GTX 860M (previous, slightly slower, GPU) runs at 49.6 fps at Ultra.

You can also look for maximum playable settings for other games there. Just remember - if you need to select multiple games from list, use Ctrl+LeftClick.

How are those two specs the same? Anyway, yes, you will dominate Skyrim. 16GB of RAM is plenty. What processor? 2.6GHz doesn't explain much. But, 2.6GHz still should also dominate Skyrim. Plenty of other games, too. Just don't expect to be playing GTA 5 at 4K with more than 60 FPS. Other than that, those are some good specs. So go ahead and get that laptop.
Sorry, yeah it's a 4th generation Intel core i7 4200 HQ.

I have a gaming laptop. As a reference 2.4 Ghz processor, GTX 660M and a 8 GB of Ram I get 55-60 fps on Battlefield 4 Multiplayer on low graphic settings. My laptop did well for the first year and a half ever since that day i've been facing some troubles (fps drops, overheating etc..) Just know that you will not be able to upgrade your laptop hardware like desktops.
Yeah, I know.

Have an Alienware and it's fine. Nothing special but was a reasonable price and lets me play what I'm after. Main issue is keyboard but have a usb plug in and mouse which help. Bat life could be better but mainly playing with access to power so is workable I guess.

Integrated graphics would only suck based on which type you have.....I don't think anyone would say Intel Iris sucks
OP you end up paying around $200-300 more for a gaming laptop then you would for a comparable gaming PC, so honestly unless you are not home enough to justify having a PC, I'd forego a laptop and buy/build a gaming PC. Also laptop hardware especially the Graphics Processor is less powerful then the desktop versions, and cooling even with a Alienware is not as good as a desktop, plus you can't really upgrade a laptop.

I've talked with a lot of people who have bought gaming laptops and many of them haven't lasted much more then 2 years, no sense to put $1000+ towards a decent gaming Laptop that may only last 2-3 years, just my 2 cents. Also if you are in college or just don't want the bulk of a PC you can build/buy ITX builds which can be as compact as an Xbox 360 (maybe a bit bigger) and they can be quite powerful.

HAHA my gigahertz processor and gigabyte space are better than yours!

(1.65 gh, 8 gigs)
I totally understand this and I would prefer a PC, personally. But my parents are divorced (I'm 16) so until I move out I need something portable.
