PC restarts constantly after installing new RAM
Hello!

I ordered RAM for my spare PC that has been in storage for the last 6 months and when I installed it, the PC restarts a few seconds after booting. I have tried to reset the CMOS battery, but it didn't help. I don't the it's old RAM, so I can't try installing these.

New RAM: http://www.hyperxgaming.com/us/memory/fury (4GB, 1600MHz)
Motherboard: http://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/G41M-P21.html#hero-overview

Thanks in advance

Just realised the mobo supports 1333MHz.

Well, that sucks. You should return the ram and get different ram (or get a better mobo that supports more than 1333MHz ram)

I found some old 1333MHz RAM, 2x4GB. Installed them , same problem.

Did you update to Windows 10? I have heard that some computers may get stuck in a boot loop after updating.

If not, then you might have bad ram. Depending on how old your ram is, it might have bad parts that could make your OS not able to boot properly. The ram might also have nothing to do with it. If you have the ram that used to be in your computer still, try putting that in it and booting it up.

Tried the 1333mhz sticks on my main PC and everything was fine. Not sure what the problem could be.

What mobo do you have? Also, are the two sticks of ram from the same kit or different kits? Using ram from two kits can cause problems, that is what multi-stick kits are for.

You might have too much ram in it, motherboards have a limit to how much ram you can put in them.

Okay so

RAM: Kingston kvr13n9s8/4
Main pc mobo: MSI H61M-P31 (G3)

I remember the spare pc having 4GB of RAM, I tried to run it with 4GB first, not 8 and still it restarts.

What ram kit is the new ram from?

Now I installed the new RAM on my main PC. No problem. But either of those rams don't seem to work on the spare pc.

The hyperx kit doesn't work because it is 1600mhz and your mobo only supports up to 1333mhz. What are the two 4 gb ram sticks from? If they are just random ram you found lying around in your house it is probably a bad idea to use them together as they are from different ram kits.

Yeah I know the hyperx is not supported, but the other one (Kingston kvr13n9s8/4) should be, considering it is 1333mhz.

Now it booted fine, no idea what the problem was. Thank you for your help!
