with an ups you shouldnt need to use a surge protector, since it will have protector circuits in it

either way will work, if you need more outlets, the surge protector/strip can be plugged into the ups

I think I might have figured out why there was confusion in your last thread asking the same question. By AVR, do you mean Audio/Video Receiver or Automatic Voltage Regulator? I'm assuming you mean the latter, because the former would make no sense in this context.

Automatic voltage regulators / uninterruptable power supplies / power conditioners offer superior protection to surge protectors. With most surge protectors you are getting minor insurance against voltage spikes, and some cheaper units are barely worth that. With an AVR / UPS you will usually get protection against voltage spikes, dips (just as dangerous), line interference, etc...

You should buy one of these units if you think the added protection is worth you money.

If you do, you can plug your PC directly into it and you don't even need to mess with the surge protector.

Yes automatic voltage regulator. Thank you. Sorry for my limited english. Can you suggest a good avr to power my 144hz monitor and gtx750ti at the same time? Or a generic avr is fine?

a 1000va ups can run a 400w build (including lcd monitor) for about 3-4 hours

if you want to run your network gear (modem, router, switches ect..) they dont take alot of power but will shorten the uptime some

but most ups are designed to keep a pc running just long enough to safely shut down the pc
