I'm looking to get a new tower to run Arma 3. I've been running it on my laptop with lag and I can't stand it anymore. I found a tower with these specs and im curious if its enough or if I can add anything to it to get it to a decent level.

You have a better chance with the Fx 6300 but you will have to drop everything down and you will still have trouble holding 30fps. Doubt the game would even start on the first system. Now if you wanna drop $300 on a gtx 970 and replace the 750ti...you'd be in good shape.

ArmA 3 is heavy on 2 threads and the rest are left out to dry, due to the game's engine having issues with multi-threading.

If ArmA 3 is your focus, get something Intel 4th Gen and up with overclocking capabilities.

For ArmA 3, you'll want an unlocked processor.. like the i5-4690K or i5-6600K (note the 'K' as it indicates that it is unlocked).

You'll also want a stronger GPU than a GTX 745. I'd recommend at least a GTX 960.
AMD FX-6000 and FX-8000 don't give the performance their clockspeed in GHz would imply.

any pre-builts that are worth my money?
Rove Dec 2, 2015 @ 9:06pm
Here's for 1/2 that, under $500 after rebates:

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Seagate 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive
PowerColor Radeon R9 380 4GB PCS+ Video Card
Raidmax ATX-249B (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Thermaltake SMART 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Base Total: $541.82
Promo Discounts: -$5.00
Mail-in Rebates: -$70.00
Shipping: $2.99
Total: $469.81

That should play whatever you want nicely and certainly exceeds the specs for ARMA 3.

If you really wwant to spend more you can though:

AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R5 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
G.Skill Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
XFX Radeon R9 290X 8GB Double Dissipation Video Card
Deepcool TESSERACT SW ATX Mid Tower Case
Pioneer BDR-209DBK Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer
Arctic Cooling Arctic F12 PWM CO 74.0 CFM 120mm Fan
XFX ProSeries 1050W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Patriot Blast 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2DMWFT
Base Total: $1098.79
Promo Discounts: -$5.00
Combo Discounts: -$15.00
Mail-in Rebates: -$90.00
Shipping: $8.97
Total: $997.76

That should stomp all over anything at all like it owns it at 1080p. As resolutions increase it will get slower, maybe only 30 FPS in 4K, could be more or less depending on game. That's only because of the graphics though and some things will still play well even at 4k.

Just build your own and avoid prebuilds. Prebuilt PCs typically have poor choice components, usually of poor quality or basic OEM low-tier components. You can find prebuilt PCs with decent components, but they are way overpriced.

Don't be afraid of building your own PC... it is very simple. Plenty of guides to help you. It is about as simple as plug-and-play. Use PCPartpicker.com to help you find the best prices on parts and help with figuring out compatibility.

ignore rove, those builds are outdated
fx6-8 will get about 30fps with arma3

$500-1000 can build a very nice gaming pc with an i5 and r9 or gtx

building will save about $200+ over buying a prebuilt and you can get better compoentns

AMD FX-6000 and FX-8000 are very slow in ARMA 3, best avoided.

Intel Core i5 is best for ARMA 3 and best price/performance ratio too.
