Intel Core 2 Duo (Socket P) T6600 upgrading older laptop to T9900 (or similar T9800 or T9600)
I have a mother board (Asus G60VX laptop) with an Intel Core 2 Duo (socket P), a T6600.

http://ark.intel.com/products/37255/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T6600-2M-Cache-2_20-GHz-800-MHz-FSB

I checked here http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2/Intel-Core%202%20Duo%20Mobile%20T6600%20AW80577GG0492MA%20-%20AW80577GG0492ML.html

The TDP is 35 Watts so I don't want to go over that limit. So, that rules out the Extreme quads (they have a TDP of 45 Watts).

So i checked and found this is compatible with the socket and TDP rating (important, since I don't want to change the stock cooling).

However, I checked Amazon etc and there is none to be found (for this specific model).

Is there any good source of these in Europe? I have the laptop stripped down to reseat, repad and bake the GPU. So was thinking for cheap sources of Intel C2D that are TDP and pin compatible.

The T9900 would give larger L2 cache and faster clock and some CPU features (VT etc and yes I know the bios must support it).

That is not the purpose of this thread, I am refurbing and fixing an older (not that old) one. I have another I use but I want to use it as a Linux box. And for your information, even Amazon sells mobile CPU's.

So, does anybody know of a good source for these particular CPUs?

If you look at the information for that T9900, it shows this.

End-of-Life date
Last order date is April 29, 2011
Last shipment date for OEM processors is October 14, 2011

So you would probably have to find one on sites that sell used CPUs, or search using google for any companies that may stock older CPUs.

I just reseated, repadded and baked (slightly short time and low temps)my GPU MXM board, thus reflowing the GPU Die to BGA package balls (not the BGA to MXM PCB balls).

Its working agian :) So now I have a working laptop :)

Just wondering about the CPU, I will let this run for a while to see how long this lasts, then I will redo the CPU if its fine.

Will make a powerful Linux box :)

Thanks. Maybe somebody has some stock laying about or I wonder if I could pick up a second hand one from a cheap laptop nobody wants and discect it :)
