6GB RAM vs 8GB RAM?

I currently use 6GB (one 4gb, one 2gb) RAM, and wonder if an upgrade to 2x4GB Ram will make my computer faster. Help please, what is the difference between 6gb ram and 8gb ram?

Since u have laptop; if it only has 2 DIMM slots then Single & Dual Channels work like this:

Single Channel:
- 64bits of I/O
- non matching DIMMs (such as 1x 4GB + 1x 2GB)

Dual Channel:
- 128bits of I/O
- matching DIMMs (such as 2x 4GB)

Physically look at the current 4GB RAM you have already and then buy one to match that. If you need more in-depth look at the specs, look up the Part# listed on the RAM. Or go into Windows OS, run CPU-Z app and look under the SPD tab there, select the slot# that has the 4GB RAM installed and then look at the Part# and/or specs and buy new RAM that matches those specs down to a "T". Just because your current one is "1600 / PC-12800" is not the only spec. You need to also look at CAS Timings and Voltage as these need to match as well.

If your RAM specs of installed RAM do not match, you will have problems booting or have overall system in-stability issues. So ensure RAM all match. The sizes only need to match for dual-channel purposes, but overall this can help a bit with system responsiveness too when running dual-channel mode. Plus the obvious benefits of having more RAM above all.

It should somewhat speed up programs that sit in the upper memory, right now your first 3gb to 4gb are probably operating in dual channel (depending on how much RAM your igpu video driver is reserving) and your last 2gb are accessed in single channel. i find with a lot of browser tabs open it's good to have 8gb. modern igpus also can take about a gig away from the ram available to you.

Both are:
1600 Mhz (PC 12800); DDR3 SO-DIMM; CAS 11; 1.35V & 1.5V support ~ overall they should work fine together given the matching specs.

Upgrade your 2GB to 8GB that way you'll have 12GB. RAM is cheap in Black November!

Then it would not run in Dual Channel Mode.

Plus it depends on Laptop Model too as alot of the cheaper laptops do not support more than 4GB per DIMM

Well if it's not supported that is one thing. However 8GB of the 12GB will run in dual channel and the spare 4GB will run single channel. It will work in dual channel with the 4GB stick + 1/2 the 8GB stick and the other 4GB of the 8GB will be single channel.

There is no official support of a hybrid mode from AMD chipsets but I've heard that it seems to work this way in practice. I see 6GB configs for some of the newer excavator laptops as well from large reputable companies like HP; I doubt they would do this if it was falling back to just single channel mode.
