what is the GPU in the alienware steambox comparable to?
upgrading from :
6900 radeon series 2TB
4GHZ water cooled CPU, 64 bit
8 GB ram

Which will run GTA 5 the best?

They seem to have made a special effort to make sure it is impossible to shop and compere.

Are all the steam boxes the same from alienware as far as the GPU?

My motherboard is way too old to buy anything better for the graphics. I have it fully max-ed out right now.

What Is a comparable Nvidia GPU for a pc? so I can see if i can just build one better.

I really am tired of GTA 5 looking terrable.

Thanks in advance for any help!

From what I've heard, the GPU in the Alienware Steam Machine is similar to a GTX 860m.

What CPU is it though? If it's still an i5 you dont need to upgrade that only the GPU.

some are i3/i5/i7
http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-alpha/pd?ST=+alienware%20+alphas&dgc=ST&cid=283813&lid=5419205&acd=123098073120560&ven1=ss17Mk3EF&ven2=b&ven3=812103096588048592
depending on what model you get

i3 = dual core with ht
i5 = quad core
i7 = quad core with ht

the alienware steambox alpha does not have upgradable gpu
only ssd/ram/cpu can be upgraded in it

If your current gpu is the HD6950 it's a little below the 750ti if it's 6970 it's about par with gtx570 and slightly under gtx 580/660. http://www.techspot.com/review/615-far-cry-3-performance/page3.html

In modern games 6970 should hit between 7850 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1076?vs=1061 it's up and down with the 7850.

Pss, the defining factor for what gpu you can get will be cpu/psu/case size.

The Alienware box has a modified GTX 860m, which benchmarks roughly the same as a GTX 750 ti.
Your GPU should be roughly similar to a GTX 570.

If you want the best performance for your money, you can get way better parts for the same cost building it yourself.

Perfect!

My problem though, after a quick review video is that they dont support an audio jack.

Also the non-upgrade thing has me sort of puzzled too. What is the point of owning a Steambox, if i cant upgrade it?

Alienware really did not think this thing through enough. I hope VALVE removes them from their front page soon. The ZoTAC liks much better both hardware, and overall design.

thanks everyone.

You can get a USB sound card and use that, or USB headphones, but yeah, disappointing that that has to be a workaround.

The Zotac box is definitely better, but it is also more expensive
