Huge bottleneck? (Nvidia 9600GT 512mb)
Greetings,

This week I made a small computer with some spare ♥♥♥♥ for a friend of mine. The problem is that the PC can't run games which it should be able to run atleast on medium settings.

The games I tested for this computer is Company of heroes, Swat 4, Battlefield 2 and Counter-strike:source. The thing is, they all are low-end games since they need a pentium 4 CPU recommended and this pc still managed to run them all with around 20 fps... (low settings!)

Specs of the PC:

Pentium Dual-core 2.6Ghz
Nvidia Geforce 9600GT 512Mb Gddr3
4GB Ram ddr2
Windows 7 pro

These games dont even use above the 256MB videoram on recommended. And this card is at 512.

Info:
- I installed the graphicscard drivers. (old but gold)
- Windows 7 SHOULD not be a problem at all.

My question of today: Is there anything wrong?? It should run those games (esspecially bf2,css and swat4) on low 60 fps EASY!.

Thanks for your time,
Firehawk.

the c2d is on par with amd cpus core performance
and way behind current intel cpus core performance

csgo only needs 2 cores, but likes core speed, the c2d will be ok on 16 or fewer player servers

the 9600gt is very weak for 1080p gaming, 720p may be ok, but still weak
are the components new or old and used? components performance decreasee in time

Oh, and is everything else "legit"? *cough*

age does not hurt performance
its cooling and how well it has been treated (heat/overclock)

the cpu is stronger than the gpu
a better match would be a 9800gtx(gts250) or gtx x50 or amd r7 card

Well if it's thrue that the CPU is better than the GPU then I still don't know why it can't run those old school games on low settings. it's rediculous.

Perhaps i need drivers for the CPU or motherboard?

There is also a 6 pins connection on the GPU which I didn't connect because my power supply doesn't have the needed cable to connect it. anyway i never did and that shoukd not be a problem. The card is old but I was always able to play those games without any problems.

I will try and clean the pc.
if the gpu has the connector, it needs to be plugged into the power supply

pick up a molex to pci-e power adapter
Ya the 6 pin power plug in is there for a reason, get one and plug it in.

Yes, you will need drivers.

*facepalm*
The main problem is your GPU, especially when it comes to Company Of Heroes, but the CPU isnt particularly better off. COH is highly CPU and GPU bound and those specs simply arent good enough for it.. i had issues with it back on my Q8300 and 9800GTX+ so i had to lower the graphics some.. so with that setup its no surprise youre having issues with it.

BF2 is still pretty graphic, but either way that GPU isnt meant for graphic games and technically isnt meant for gaming.

by that i meant that i probably need to install OR update cpu + motherboard drivers manually. With my gaming pc I personally use I never need to do that since windows will do it automatically :D.

So yeah... if you want you can still facepalm yourself if you really need it.

Thanks for your patience

Back in the day I never had any issues with gaming. And I dont expect bf2 and coh to run the game on full 60 Fps (even on 720p) but I also don't expect it to run on 20 Fps on lowest settings :\

I will search for a molex to pci-e cable and give this thread an update later on.

COH was intense in its day, its no joke when it comes to what it needs to run decently.
Think of it as the Strategy version of Crysis, as far as graphics n such goes.
I searched something up for the molex to pci-e and i think that will be the problem. The card needs more power for 3D renedering (duh.) and at this time it just cant deliver that.
That could be a possible reason if it requires a 6pin PCI-E connector and you dont have it connected to one..

But honestly, with that GPU it really wont help all that much unless you super low the settings.
