Alternate ways to force a program to close in Win10?
Sometimes when Skyrim freezes, I can't force it to close the normal ways because it keeps focus. I can Alt+Tab out of it but a windowed blackscreen takes up everything but the taskbar. Alt+F4 doesn't close the program, and when I Ctrl+Alt+Del, it brings up the blue screen and I can open Task Manager, but it remains behind the Skyrim window so I can't force the process to close through TM. When this happens, the only way I can get Skyrim to close is restarting the computer.

Is there any other way to force Skyrim to either close or minimize itself so I don't have to restart my computer when this happens? It doesn't happen often, but it's sure ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying when it does.

yes, ctrl and esc. opens the desktop and forces running apps to the taskbar. from there you can close it. but you will lose unsaved data.

Unfortunately I can't test it until the next time this happens, but I'll remember it for next time. Thanks!

Ctrl+Alt+Del would work in that situation if before hand you had the task manager to always be on top (which is highly recommended, especially for situations like you describe).

To enable this option, open task manager, click on options, and click on always on top.

Ha, it had been always on top before upgrading to Win10. I dunno why I just assumed it would be the same after upgrading.
ctrl + alt + del. choose to logout from windows, then relogin. no more restart.

Dunno why I didn't think of logging out over restarting from that screen. Pro tip.

Also, open Task Manager and then right click that icon in Notification Bar and toggle "Always on Top" as that helps if u bring it up and it is behind a game. But even if it launches behind a game/app; u should be able to just ALT+TAB to Task Manager then.

Seriously, learn WinOS; there is no need to LogOff or Restart.

some games will not be in the background even if you set task manager as 'always on top'.
the logoff/restart is there for such occurence.

OMG; seriously all u do it bring up Task Manager (which u should always just have open anyways) and then in-game u ALT+TAB to it. If u folks don't understand this, u need to sit down and learn Windows; it's that simple.
