Is this a good PC build?
I am new to building my own pc, and was ust wondering if this was a good solid build?

Also I am not decided on WD's Black vs Blue HDD, but I think blue is better since I already have a SSD.
I suggest getting a GTX 970 and Windows 10 for close to max settings all games and being able to play new games at all (Win 10 for DirectX 12). The Corsair CX PSUs are low quality.

I was thinking about getting windows 8 because I can upgrade to Windows 10 at no extra cost and it was $10 cheaper, if I happen to find Windows 10 anywhere cheaper, I definitely will buy it.

About the PSU, I have read that corsair is a good reliable company and that particular PSU had a good rating and reviews. Is it that I should get a better quality PSU based on my build?

For the video card, I was thinking the 960 was good enough since med-high is all I really need, and I primarily play League of Legends which isn't as graphics intensive.

Thanks for the feedback :)
Based on this http://www.custompcguide.net/the-differences-between-all-corsair-power-supply-units/
and what I have been reading, I think the old CX series was below par, but the current v3 CX PSUs are good enough and are greatly improved.
It's better to do a clean install of Windows. Many people have had problems doing the upgrade method. I guess you would be fine if all drivers are cleaned and new Windows 10 compatible drivers are installed etc. Many claimed they did that and still had problems. A clean install would be the safe option to reduce the chances of problems.

The 960 is still a potent card that can max many games at 1080p. It's a little weak for newer AAA games, especially ones needing more than 2GB VRAM. If you don't care about fully maxing settings then the 960 is good enough or go AMD and get a 3 or 4GB card around the same price. The R9 280 3GB 384-bit is about the same price or the 380 4GB 256-bit.

Only Corsair's top units are good quality. The rest use cheaper parts. Technically you should be fine with the CX600 and those specs. It's not that bad for a cheap unit and that is a low powered build. The question is how long will it work before dying. Then again the most expensive PSU can die on you in a week after purchase also. ha

I have personally seen the CX600 gamed on hard for over two years without any issue. You should be fine. The PSU is not something to skimp on and the automatic response is to get something better.

I'll probably just get Windows 10 now, thanks for the clarification.

The 960 is probably good enough for me, however there is a 4GB version of the 960, but I have read that is offers no noticeable benefit/ performance increase and is a slightly higher price.

Based on reviews and a somewhat tight budget, I think I may settle for the CX600 or even possibly the CX750 (though I think I won't need the extra power). This build should last (with upgrades every now and then) maybe 3+ years?
Another alternative is the Corsair CS 750M http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00GH9NA0A/11018812-20 which I have heard is a bit higher quality, or do you just recommend http://www.amazon.com/Seasonic-S12II-620-BRONZE-SS-620GB/dp/B003BIEOCI

Thanks.
The 960 is only 128-bit and better for 1 or 2GB VRAM. The 280 or 380 have higher speed to use 3 or 4GB better.

Thanks, I think I'll go with the Seasonic S12II then :)
Another thing I loked into was the R9 280x http://www.amazon.com/XFX-RADEON-1000MHz-Graphics-R9-280X-TDFD/dp/B00FSC5N66
I just wanted to know how the performance would compare, and if there were better options.
The 280X and 960 are mostly even until more VRAM is needed and then the 280X takes the lead.

There is an R9 290 4GB 512-bit on NewEgg for $219. It's only a reference design. It would need a case with good airflow.

what are your thoughts on the R9 380 http://www.amazon.com/MSI-R9-380-GAMING-4G/dp/B00ZGF0VGC
I am basically deciding between gtx 960, r9 280, r9 290, and r9 380.

I would get the 380 4GB out of those or get that 290. A ref 290 would run hot. It's best to get a better version if you got that. It's just the biggest bang for the buck and sweet spot for 1080p gaming. Both are good for mostly maxed gaming at 1080p. I would go for the fastest card I can get, but would also pay a little more for a good version like Asus Strix/DCII for example. If you have a decent amount of fans/airflow then temps shouldn't be too bad.

Since I am not a fan of loud fans/ hot temperature and don't like the higher prices (300ish) of the other 290s, I think I may go with the 380. I will do more research and over the weekend try and go to my local micro center to see their prices and options. Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it :)
I also am considering the 280X which I have heard outperforms the 380, either way, I'll do more research tomorrow, thanks!
