Mousepad left overnight in car...
So I left my steelseries qck mousepad in the car overnight. Here in Canada, it gets very cold overnight. Now I feel how hard my pad is. It feels different when I slide my mouse across, even after several hours at room temperature. What should I do?

How cold is cold? I don't even have my heat on yet.

Maybe it's just psychosomatic or you got coffee and donut sugar all over it.
stick it in the microwave for a few seconds maybe, or place a hot plate or hot coffee cup on it

^ Yea not what NASTY said; u'll ruin it.

Just use a Blow Dryer on Low/Medium Heat and heat it up a bit. How much u do that is kinda all on you, obviously if the dryer heat feels hot enough coming out (such as on High) that it feels unbearable on your skin, then that is most likely too hot.

But yea a bit of heat applied and it should come back to like with regards to proper flex and softness. When u first tried to use it in-doors it probably experienced that shock where condensation will occur. Most likely the reason it felt too hard/slippery with your mouse. Some heat will fix that.
The idea was to apply heat to it...if its rubberized foam maybe a microwave not so much, but you get the concept.

Even if it is a hard-surface type of Mouse Pad, u don't want to put it in the Microwave, as those surface types tend to have a glossy-clear-coat finish applied to them, which can seperate from the surface if the pad was to get too cold/hot.

Microwave is not just applying heat, it does way more, and would most likely cause damages easily. Dry natural heat, like a blow-dryer would be a better method. Microwave or Oven types could easily cook and destroy the surface/product in a short amount of time.

How cold did it get?

If it went too low for too long the rubber the pad is made of may have crystalised meaning it will never return to it's original state. That may explain why the pad feels different but the temperature won't have had any effect on the cloth but may have affected the glue that sticks it to the rubber.

What is the acceptable temperature range of the product?

Yea if it was below freezing; then I doubt u'll really be able to return it back to anything like its original state.

Thanks guys. For those who didn't want to read the posts:
1. Use a blowdryer on medium
2. Do NOT use a microwave.
3. If above fails, mousepad is toast.

To answer all the questions:
1. I don't know the temp range for the product. Google is my best friend. The mousepad is a Steelseries QCK.
2. The temperature got to about -5 degrees celcius.
3. Mousepad still feels kinda different even after a full night at room temperature.

Totally depends on the rubber compound it's made of.

-5C for maybe 12 hours should not make much difference to neoprene or butyl, not cold enough or long enough for permanent damage. When you said very cold I was thinking at least -20C

If it has crystalised then it should re melt after being brought back to room temps for a while.

I'm having a hard time believing -5c could make a squat of difference considering these things are shipped in un heated cargo containers at lower temps in the winter months. Anyway.

Sleep with your mousepad and let it heat up by your body heat.
Who ever thought you'd share the bed with a mousepad right? See life is full of surprises! :steamhappy:
