Hey i found out how to fix thank you thought!
Gaming laptops have both options because both modes have their advantages. iGPU will be easy on battery, while not suitable for more serious gaming; the discrete GPU will use much more power, so that usually is used plugged in and for gaming.
Seems like OP has figured it out. By the way, if you iGPU is not performing like you think it should, check that you have both memory slots occupied. Some laptop vendors sell new notebooks with 1x8GB rather than 2x4GB, and people unknowingly will run in single channel memory mode and get much worse memory bandwidth, which then becomes noticeable if the GPU is also using that bandwidth.
