What is the best OS for 2GB of RAM ? - 32 bit or 64 bit
Hi guys i recently build a pc on low budget (total cost 190 euros!!!). Because i was on low budget i installed only 2 GB of RAM. I am currently running windows 7 64 bit and i experience lagging on browsers, i checked it and RAM usage is pretty high about 90% (CPU is on 20%). So my question is should i switch to windows 7 32 bit ? Is this going to help RAM usage and stop lagging ? Thank you

64 bit is what you should be using period. 32 bit is basically outdated at this point. It's like the floppy disk, nobody uses it anymore.

That lag you are getting is because 2GB is extremely low for a modern PC. Just buy another 2GB DIMM of RAM.

2GB of ram is extremely low for a gaming PC, you should really install another DIMM of 2GB at least.
Its not a gaming pc dude just a budget one mainly for browsing the web i just wanted to know if 32 bit would help in a way :)
I edited it to say, 2GB is low for a PC, period. Whether its gaming or not, a modern PC uses more than 2GB RAM. Getting a new DIMM is the only way to fix the issue, Windows 32bit will not use less resoures.
would you consider linux an option? Im not using linux but I think in your case it may be the better OS

Im a windows user but i might try it in the future
If you go linux, use a low resource desktop environment like lxde or xfce.

2GB is fine for browsing with a x64 OS if you're getting lag there're other areas that can cause it ie hdd/internet connection-speed / antivirus programs/ hoards of tracking cookies the list goes on.

BTW, typing on steam with Netflix streaming win 10 says I'm using 1.7GB ram, throwing another crackle.com stream on pushes it above 2GB to 2.1GB, so there you have it.

Ps, Since you already own win 7 64 you may as well upgrade to win 10 64bit for FREE, buying a copy of win 7 32bit would be a waste of $$ since you could just as well buy more ram for less than the copy of win 7 32bit.

32-bit applications, obviously, use less RAM than 64-bit. Its pretty pointless to install 64-bit OS on 2 GB RAM.
Win7 32-bit may free up another 512MB of RAM as the pointers are all smaller, etc.
id install win64 anyway
you can always add more ram (unless the mobo doesnt support it)

What are the benefits from 64-bit? I see no any. Only disadvantages.
The main disadvantage is the 2GB of RAM
4GB should be the absolute minimum.

Whether you go with 32bit or 64bit they will both be slow with only 2GB of RAM.

The lag you are experiencing is 1: from only having 2GB, and 2 web browser RAM usage is normally high to begin with which when paired with only 2GB its only logical that theres going to be slow downs.

Stick with the 64bit and add another 2GB of RAM when possible, theres no point switching to 32bit.

pc memory costs less now.

for entry level motherboards with 2 dimm slots only, the OP should have bought a single 4gb (or 8gb if his budget allows it).

yes windows 32 bit will use less memory, and will run faster if your bottleneck is the 2 gb of ram ( you will have more to play with)

see how easy it is to answer someones question everyone.
