Is the G29 shifter compatible with a G27 wheel?

My shifter is busted and I'm looking for a replacement. This video says "the shifter and pedals are cross compatible with both platforms" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk7xO-n0eys to me that statement would indicate that it would, but I've yet to find independent confirmation of this. Can someone tell me unambigiously whether this is true or not, can I use a G29 shifter with the G27?

It is combatible sort of in that all the gears work except for reverse which is really really really really lame, and clearly deliberate. I ordered one to try out then sent it back.

i use the G29 wheel and G27 Shifter, Reverse works just fine but no buttons or D-pad works only the gears

I think it should work fine. I've got the g27 wheel and pedals but i don't have a shifter and i want to get the g29 shifter.
