audio causes blue screen
i have a conexant smartaudio hd sound "card". lately it have started crashing my pc when i play certain sounds. previously it would just crash and i would lose the sound, while the pc would still work. after i installed an update to windows it started blue screening instead of the sound dropping. any solutions?

all modern laptops have at least 2 sound "cards" one belongs to the cpu, one belongs to the motherboard and in some cases there is a third, on the gpu. both my acer from 2016(amd a4 5000), my older asus and toshiba laptops and my newer cepter laptop have cpu based audio. the ones with intel cpus have intel skjermlyd(not sure what its english name is) while my acer have amd based audio. the cpu audio is used when connecting external monitor through hdmi.

It's not the CPU, it's the iGPU.
And it's not an audio card, but an output. Because it transfers the audio as a digital signal, not an analog one.

Go into Windows Sound Settings > Audio Control Panel
Disable all other Playback Devices except for the Conexant

that would not be very helpful. the conexant would still crash and with the intel sound card disabled, star trek online might crash as well. it rarely ever crash and never cause blue screen. star trek online did crash a few times on most systems during the summer event but, no blue screen. only the game itself crashed and not the system.

Everything should actually have less issues by doing it this way. This puts a stop to how WinOS can switch the audio devices around. It can't do that if you disable all those other ones you don't use or need.

But again make sure the properties for the Conexant are configured as 16Bit/44Khz to avoid issues with certain games.

Verify games that have giving you problems in the past.

turning off the stable sound card is never an option(that would cause more crashes). i would have used only the intel one if i had better speakers. the internal speaker in my pc is better than the speakers in my monitor. my other laptop however is using only the intel sound card. though that have a ram problem in addition to a sound card problem so, it some times crashes anyway. though now it might run for a week without crashing. though on the positive side, its harddrive is so fast that it starts up quickly. that runs on my tv which have good speakers. my asus monitor(connected to my toshiba) have had speakers. why am i even arguing with a troll anyway?

Any information in the Event logger?
Disabling the output means disabling the driver, making it impossible for the OS to do questionable things with it to cause a BSOD.

What I want to know is where you come up with this BS that your Laptop has two Audio Devices. Use the Motherboard Audio, not the HDMI Audio.
They have made so many threads having so many issues that it seems odd.

I see ThinkPad with that audio or reports of corsair headsets appearing as that. I believe some details are left out.
