16 gigabytes of ram compared to 8 gigabytes of ram would help, it would enable you to run more stuff at once. also: if you want to run a demanding game(in terms of ram) you would need it. star trek online would not be affected by a ram upgrade, as it rarely uses much more than 3 gigabytes. if you want to run both browser and star trek online however, then you might need more ram. i had 16 gigabytes and it was not enough for browser and star trek online. i upgraded to 32. it helped a lot. my asus would benefit less however, due to having a weaker gpu. also i would need to upgrade to an operating system that supports more ram.

This is absurd. One youtube tab in Firefox with a music video playing in the background uses ≈600 MB. This is a real scenario, otherwise it makes no sense to run a browser with tons of tabs without doing anything on them and playing a game at the same time.
The problem here is not the hardware, but the user.

What's even better is that my laptop uses 2~4 GB RAM while running multiple browser tabs, discord, steam, etc.

The problem is that Windows is just really inefficient with RAM these days and will easily use 4GB just for the OS itself
There is definitely nothing that needs to change here other than the entire laptop to a new one, there's nothing that can be done to improve performance with the current laptop unless you're constantly running out of RAM, but even then, you don't have to spend money on overpriced laptop RAM, you can just change your OS to a light Linux distro like Mint or another distro on XFCE4 and 8GB would be plenty RAM as the system would use less than 2GB.
you are not using the web sites of the norwegian broadcasters nrk and tv 2. they leak constantly. one tab based on either web site will leak up to 3 gigabytes.
So you're using an uncommon and personal use case as a reason for needing more RAM? Don't you get how bizarre that is? Mine doesn't even use that much, they should only spend the money on more RAM if they actually consistently run out of RAM.
i am checking news on those websites a lot. it helps to have them open.

Windows 10 or 11 with default settings is garbage.
Usually older versions of Windows 10 like 1909 and 1809 can achieve much more acceptable RAM usage around 800MB-1.1GB if you tweak them of course.
With the latest one I achive 1.4GB.
