do i need a bluray-burner?
my liteOn dvd burner is defective. it doesnt work for dvd's with movies on it (videots). i am about to buy a bluray burner. i prefer pioneer internal device. is it good for data storage for my music collection of about 150 gb(mp3/wav/flac/m4a) ? or should i buy a new dvd burner to watch my movies? money is not an issue and i dont need a device today. i have AMD AM4 system with 16 gb of ram and windows 11 pro as OS.

use usb thumb drivers, or external hdd/ssd
way faster than optical drives
They're useful. An external USB one is a bit more convenient, though.
Just invest in a NAS and rip all your physical media to it. It was the best thing I ever did, even your TV can stream media from it.

Whatever you get, get external USB. No point buying 5.25in Drives anymore

It's difficult to rip disks without an optical drive, which is the topic at hand.
I have a BR RE external drive for my PC, it's now hooked up to my main PC but I will shift it to my 2nd rig as it has a more capable CPU in the R9 5900X, whereas my main rig has a game centric CPU in the 5700X3D. For ripping DVD/BR, you'd need such a drive (internal or external) because, well, duh....to rip from DVD or BR discs.

I have an extended music and movie collection and they're all on SDD drives, they're kind of cheap now days and it's way better than optical drives. you can play them from your PC watch movies from it or plug in your TV or projector to it everything is possible
I also made a copy which stays unplugged in a drawer just in case
i dont want to rip. i have original dvds, that i want to watch with pc. i have about 60 dvd movies and i want to burn some data on bluray...is this stupid? i dont think so.

yes, grab a Blu-ray burner if your case has the space and that's what you want/need.

I snagged one (regular dvd/cd write/rewrite drive), for my PC when I built it (it has 4 5.25 drive slots, 2 house an Asus rog "front base", one has the optical drive and the other is currently empty) though fair to say I don't use it that much, but when I do need to use it, it makes me glad i bought it, not to mention they are extremely cheap.
