PS5 Pro VS PC
I was wondering how the recently announced PlayStation 5 Professional stacks up against an equivalent gaming PC. Particularly the GPU.
I have an Nvidia 3080 Ti and I think the Pro might have it whooped. What do you guys think?

The PS5 Pro specs:

GPU: RDNA 2 60 compute units, 3840SMs.
Upscaling: PSSR (said to be better than FSR, worse than DLSS)
Ray Tracing hardware that Mark Cerny claims hasn’t been released in any of AMD’s current graphics cards.
CPU: AMD 8-core Zen 2 16 threads, 3.5GHz
RAM: 16GB GDDR6 560GB/s memory bandwidth
Storage: 2 TB NVME 5.5GB/s read
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 7
Ports: Two USB-C ports on the front, two USB-A ports on the rear, HDMI 2.1 output, and Ethernet
Price: $699

So, the PS5 Pro is sits about midway between a 3060 Ti and a 3070.
Taking their own 45% performance figure instead of looking at TFlops alone, it would match up closer to the RX 6800 (non-XT) or the RX 7700 XT since those are what is around 45% faster in the real world than the RX 6650 XT and RX 6700 (non-XT), which are probably the closest analogy to the PlayStation 5 non-Pro.

Those two Radeons are the better analogies than anything nVidia since they are a closer architecture, and the nVidia GPUs in that performance range mostly have 8 GB VRAM, which might be less to work with than the PlayStation 5/Pro. But if you want the closest nVidia analogy, though it'd be even less accurate, that would be the RTX 3070 Ti (with an asterisk).

If you consider the PlayStation 5 Pro using RDNA4 (or "RDNA 3.5") and possibly being a bit faster in ray tracing, plus consoles generally performing better spec-for-spec than a GPU on a PC would, you might say it's "effectively up to" between a 7700 XT and 7800 XT, but that's playing loose and working with speculation. The closest nVidia analogies in that example would then be the RTX 4070, 3080 (non-Ti, 12 GB only), and 4070 Super. But again, that's speculating on "effective" performance advantage the consoles may get out of them and could be seen as a high estimate as opposed to a 1:1 match in specifications.

I think there is a market for a Steam Machine designed by valve using a custom AMD SoC like the Steam Deck.
I wonder if Valve could sell a PS5 Pro-Like Steam Machine for $700?🤔
Those who think like this are stupid. If they have a good graphics card that can the games with better graphics and perfomance than console(like mine RX 6700XT for example thati run all games maxed 1440p 60 fps0 then why they choose console and play the games with worse graphics and perfomane than their pc can? I have a xbox controller on pc since 2006. It is connected all the time isnce then. But i use it only for fighter(mortal kombat tekken street fighter e.tc) as iprefer action games/action rpg and platformers and fps to play with keyboard and mouse.

While WE know that, try telling today's youth that. People who grew up with Phones and Tablets

GPU is between 7700xt and 7800xt. The TF rating is dual issue which is what RDNA3 quoted. Its running RDNA4 RT. Honestly, i'm buying one. I have a 7900xt PC but tired of waiting for games like Stellar Blade and FFVII Rebirth to come to PC.

Not to mention so many of these Sony games have various issues on PC even with the best PC hardware out there. Yet they run flawlessly on the PS5 already. Games I paid for back on PS4 run better and look better on PS5 without me having to do anything more or pay extra for anything, aside from just the console itself. But I had no trouble cleaning up the PS4 and getting a good amount back from it via reselling it.

Who needs the BR player anyways? But at least it's an option, which for any of the PS5 you can buy that for around $80 if needed.

PS5 PRO also already comes with 2TB SSD. Which honestly they should have done with the original PS5 since you don't get the full drive amount anyways; not just because of what's lost from formatting by the OS and such takes up a good chunk; so 1TB doesn't really cut it when some games are well over 100+ GB each.

I miss my old optical drive I had in my old PC. I just kept taking it out of previous pc cases and putting it in my newer builds

I only would want one to be able to play physical media I have.

Hence I see the ps5 pro as a multi-entertainment purpose console.

In many countries you can trade physical games. Plenty of such shops. Or exchange them for free on gaming forums with other gamers.
It can make playing a lot of games a LOT less expensive. You need to buy just one game and then keep trading/exchanging/borrowing.

I don’t know what to tell ya. Not all gamers care all that much about having the best graphics and the highest possible frame rates. They have other priorities.

PS5 Pro sounds brilliant on paper. But look at the price for console. That just plays games. Compared to a Computer which does it all

Console players have been complaining about the price, but when you actually look at the specs, it’s a really good deal. If Valve made a Steam Machine for 700 with comparable power I would be over the moon.

It depends what you want to play and what you are used to playing.

Pc is no different then consoles except for consoles are cheaper but pc is free but very expensive if your getting a good gaming pc and pc you have to know how to update and may have to take it to a tech specialist which means your private information on your pc is now being viewed by some tech guy possibly and can be expensive.

On pc game developers have a hard time fixing bugs for everyone since we are all on different pc. Some people don't even list their pc specs.

Consoles on the other hand, we all on same system so easy fix.

Pc is simply a testing ground for games that could come to consoles depending on how well it does on pc and all the kinks are worked out.

Playstation and Xbox are both good platforms but depends on what games you like to play.

You can buy the console for games + a cheap PC with basic GPU for about the same money or less than some prebuilds that would struggle with next gen games.

I'm not saying it's a better option but it's a valid option.
Almost no cheaters (no scripts) is the best argument for consoles for me.

You also can't get one anymore now until 3rd parties sell them. Sony was getting flooded so they now restricted PS5 PRO sales on SONY Playstation Sore to PSN accounts with more then 30 hours gameplay time.

They did this to stop scalpers and it only for Japan not united states, united states they sold out quickly. They will probably do this for united states too when they make a new console hopefully but it only for the 30th anniversary edition.

That 30’s anniversary edition looks sweet. I’m not a fan of the standard white colour scheme.

IDK What to tell you but what was your cpu paired with RTX 3080 Ti?
700 US$ PS5 Pro wasn't included dock or blue-ray drive. And Anniversary version was higher price than Pro version.
All Playstation generations they weren't overclockable so no performance much when heavy titles release hehe. And all I have to worry about storage for games and not just gaming meaning watching videos, browsing websites, musics, oh wait movies ...etc
I know what are you thinking about this PS5 Pro Anniversary version, but hey you could mod this PS5 Pro non Anniversary in the future after warranty :steamhappy:
Well all just ideas and attendances.

You can't play CS2 on a PS5.
