- Intel's recommended defaults
- BIOS update
- Underclock (to 4.8GHz if you want the same single core performance as Xeons and i3s do)
- Undervolt
- Disable E cores or make them to enter in parked state when there is no need of them.
There are other checks I would do, but I'm too lazy to point them out because they're not essential. Basically, if you want to extend the life, it also goes hand in hand with the pursuit of energy efficiency.
I got told disabling the E cores is not a good idea. I haven't got a clue about undervolting cpu's and only normally use the asus default factory settings in the bios.
Disabling HT or isolating processes to using threads that aren't siblings can also solve performance issues with some games
Undervolting doesn't have to reduce performance. I've undervolted every CPU myself, family and friends has owned for over a decade and never resulted in less performance. Weakest undervolt I remember was -0.045 and the best was -0.140 and every single one I undervolted could do stock speeds fine. Some could even be overclocked whilst undervolted
Motherboard manufacturers and even chip manufacturers specify voltage based on worse case scenario. A CPU that gets the weaker silicon but still meets manufacturer performance will need that voltage. Every other CPU that isn't bottom in silicon won't need as much voltage to perform as advertised
I have my 12700K undervolted by -0.095 and running stock speeds when I'm doing desktop stuff running absolutely fine. If I wanted I'm sure I could even get a little overclock in while undervolted but I don't need more performance on desktop.
It says F2 or delete key to enter the bios setup, but i pressed both and it did not let me access it. Might of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up my bios by installing the improved game performance version that is previous version and not the new lastest bios version.
Via CMD
shutdown.exe /r /fw
Fast boot is probably joking around.
Is there away to fix it when booting up or will i need to update to newest version?
