Question about the 14700K???
Do I need to undervolt it once i have put it in the socket or can i just leave it at factory default settings in the bios since i have no clue how to undervolt.

you can undervolt it through windows if you want to do that, though for maximum performance you better not. i have had to undervolt multiple cpus because of bad cooler(toshiba laptop) or very loud cooler(HP desktop).

As long as you use Intel's recommended defaults and keep BIOS up to date for the latest microcode, you're usually going to be fine

If you are too paranoid.
- Intel's recommended defaults
- BIOS update
- Underclock (to 4.8GHz if you want the same single core performance as Xeons and i3s do)
- Undervolt
- Disable E cores or make them to enter in parked state when there is no need of them.

There are other checks I would do, but I'm too lazy to point them out because they're not essential. Basically, if you want to extend the life, it also goes hand in hand with the pursuit of energy efficiency.

I got told disabling the E cores is not a good idea. I haven't got a clue about undervolting cpu's and only normally use the asus default factory settings in the bios.

Ah ♥♥♥♥ it, I'll just cancel my order if this 14700k has temp problems and just stick with my 12700k for a while.

I don't know who told you but it's fine, the E-cores aren't useful for gaming and if that's all the system is used for and you don't run a bunch of small loads in the background while gaming, you don't need them anyway

Disabling HT or isolating processes to using threads that aren't siblings can also solve performance issues with some games

disabling hyperthreading is not a good idea. though that is not on the e cores anyway. only the p cores is hyperthreaded.

If you have a 12700K then there's no real reason to change it, the performance difference isn't enough to justify spending hundreds on the upgrade

Undervolting doesn't have to reduce performance. I've undervolted every CPU myself, family and friends has owned for over a decade and never resulted in less performance. Weakest undervolt I remember was -0.045 and the best was -0.140 and every single one I undervolted could do stock speeds fine. Some could even be overclocked whilst undervolted

Motherboard manufacturers and even chip manufacturers specify voltage based on worse case scenario. A CPU that gets the weaker silicon but still meets manufacturer performance will need that voltage. Every other CPU that isn't bottom in silicon won't need as much voltage to perform as advertised

I have my 12700K undervolted by -0.095 and running stock speeds when I'm doing desktop stuff running absolutely fine. If I wanted I'm sure I could even get a little overclock in while undervolted but I don't need more performance on desktop.

Damn, cannot get into the bios when hitting delete key for some reason.

it's not always the delete key, sometimes it's different

It says F2 or delete key to enter the bios setup, but i pressed both and it did not let me access it. Might of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up my bios by installing the improved game performance version that is previous version and not the new lastest bios version.

If you screwed up your BIOS, it wouldn't even boot as bad firmware would usually screw everything

Ok, get in Windows and enter in the Bios this way.

Via CMD
shutdown.exe /r /fw

Fast boot is probably joking around.

Is there away to fix it when booting up or will i need to update to newest version?
