B650 Bios Update Failed
I was in the processing of updating my BIOS yesterday to FB3b for the B650 Aorus Elite Ax. It downloaded the file in the BIOS, flashed the ready to reboot icon, but then the machine sorta “restarted” itself. Not sure why but I left it alone for a few minutes and nothing was happening. I turned off the machine and now I can’t even post. I see a DRAM light on.

Things I’ve done:

Removed CMOS battery
Cleared using two-pins
Tried q-flashing but not sure if I’m doing something wrong.
Pulled RAM sticks out and tried booting with one.

I’m just not sure what to do. Pretty upset I may have just broke my computer

Gigabyte has emergency processes for BIOS recovery. You should check with them. It used to be you switch PC off at the power supply then back on, holding the ON and RESET buttons for ten seconds. After ten seconds if you release the buttons it should fail to the default BIOS and boot up.
it was probably doing the memory training again
wait longer

never touch anything while flashing bios
wait for it to finish on its own, even if it takes hours

this
if the board is under 1 year, rma it

Biggest mistake right here. Never, ever touch the computer until the bios update finishes, This can longer than a few minutes. I recommend staying at the computer also. Bios update isn't like a windows update, where you're okay to leave and go about your business.

I agree with comment #2

Well the machine isn’t posting at all. The DRAM light will stay on and the cpu fan just spins.

Just curious i thought, any modern MB had somekind of backup Bios

I think newer and more expensive Gigabyte boards have backup BIOS that you can revert to when BIOS update fails. It really depends on the board.

sort of
their backup bios isnt the same as it was 20+ years ago
now, it uses the backup bios eeprom to re-flash the main bios eeprom if the main fails to boot
its a weird way to do it
the board does not have 2 working bios versions anymore

its fine if the main bios flash eeprom is currupted
but if its a hardware problem with the eeprom or something else, it will just make things worse since it will not be able to boot from the backup bios alone

I’ll do that, but I picked up an MSI B650 Tomahawk today because I frankly don’t have space to just leave PC components sitting around. Going to re-build using a new board. I’ve generally not been happy with this board before the issue.
rma turnaround is normally pretty quick,
maybe a week at most
they will give a ups/fedex label for returning, and send a replacement board, or if its an easy fix just flash or something then it goes right back after testing
they might have a cross ship option if you pay, and dont get charged when they get the board
Ok so replace the Motherboard under warranty. Explain that it simply stopped booting/posting any longer. And that you tried the reset cmos method and nothing has worked. Next time download the bios within your OS web browser and extract the contents to usb flash drive or root of C Drive and then before you attempt any bios updating that you first reset cmos and reboot, just as a precaution.

It would help to buy better motherboards that offer bios flashback options as well.
RMA was completed. They replaced the BIOS chipset on the board and are sending it back to me. However, I gotta sell the board now. Haven’t had any issues with my MSI Tomahawk.

RMA for gigaturd was almost a month the last time i did one about a year ago......and never seen a motherboard take longer then 5 minutes to update a BIOS in 20 plus years of PC repairs......

no matter what is said the MSI board is better then the gigaTURD....
