Anyway, that's AM4. If you're going to upgrade, may as well max that AM4 socket out with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D.

And that's pretty much the end of the line for AM4.

A Ryzen 5600G is perfectly capable of handling an RTX 3060TI. You really won't see much of a performance increase.

However, if you were going to get an RTX 4080, then yes, get that Ryzen 7 5800X3D or 5700X3D.

so you are saying if i went with the Ryzen 7 5700X3D from my 5 5600g it would not make much difference?
5800x3d, anything else for am4 isn't worth it
get a 5800x3d, otherwise get a new AM5 mobo and buy a 7000 series cpu (the 7600x or non x is good)

The 5800x3D is overpriced. 5700x3D isn't much weaker but it does cost far less.[gamersnexus.net] I wouldn't be upgrading from a 5600g in the first place though, and esp. not just before the launch of arrow lake.

Acer just announced that their next P.C. is going to have arrow lake processors, and while there isn't a formalized announcement yet, we're anticipating an Oct. 17th release date.[www.techradar.com] Seems prudent to wait until at least November to buy new hardware this late into the year.

I swapped the R9 5900X in my main rig for an R7 5700X3D (couldn't justify the price difference between the 5700X3D and the 5800X3D) for better gaming performance, the 5900X has gone into my 2nd rig. Bear in mind, I have the 5700X3D paired with an XFX MERC 310 RX 7900XTX with 32GB RAM, so I figured it should last for the next 3-4 years.....hopefully.

If you're staying on the AM4, the 5700X3D is the logical choice, and can actually keep up in modern AAA games (assuming TS has a half decent GPU) and is pretty well priced now at ~210USD at Amazon. Oh yeah, since DDR4 3200MHz (and higher) prices are pretty reasonable now, it doesn't hurt to snag 2x 16GB sticks, but if you're doing fine with 16GB (I assume) then ditch that RAM upgrade suggestion. It'd be better to look into a better GPU if you have an older or lower end GPU.

Check and get the biggest your motherboard can take, End of search

Yep, I'd forgotten to mention this, check for CPU support for OP's mobo, might need a BIOS update to support newer CPUs. That's so important. wonder how I'd forgotten about that!

For myself, my X570 and X570S mobos had support for for 5700X3D and 5900X respectively, the former had a BIOS update a while back, and surprisingly had support for the 5700X3D, while the newer X570S already supported the 5900X (obviously).
