Well, I mean, it's an expensive laptop. You don't want to spill on it and have a broken keyboard as a result so a silicon membrane for the keyboard[www.amazon.com] can save you some heartache, even if it makes the typing experience a bit worse.

An exterior case can also prevent it from getting scratched[www.amazon.com], which protects the resale value. Macs tend to hold their resale value a bit better than P.Cs.

Laptops don't really need screen protectors 'cause you don't lay 'em flat on their screen, walk around while using them or put 'em in your pocket, and when you put them in a bag you fold them up. I'm not going to guarantee it's impossible for you to ruin the screen mind you, but the odds of it happening seem relatively slim.

I put my laptop in a hard, slim case to protect it. This hard case goes neatly into my bag when I'm out carrying it around.

But when I'm actually using it, it's nude.

Same is true for my Steam Deck. In it's case, in my bag when I'm running around. Au naturel when I'm actually using it.

I figure I'm much more likely to do something damaging when I'm carrying it and running around. As a point of comparison, my last laptop lasted much longer than my co-worker's. We bought them around the same time. His died after about two years. Mine still lives on. Mine stayed in a case. His got tossed into the back seat of his pickup.

Apple Care[www.apple.com] isn't a silver bullet:

Every Mac comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary technical support. I'd rather buy five external cases for $20 than pay a $99 service fee even just once.

Moreover, I'm not sure if applecare covers liquid damage or not. Apple is vague enough that it is better not to risk it[support.apple.com], esp. since there may be a service fee involved.

Nevermind: I found the provision regarding the accidental damage protection in the present Applecare terms[www.apple.com].

3.2 Services for Accidental Damage from Handling (“ADH Service”)
