Going from Nvidia 1060 to 4080 has introduced severe motion sickness on First Person games...
I am trying to figure out how to remedy this situation. I beat Prey 2017 last year on my modest system built around the Nvidia 1060. Fps was locked at 60. Same television which is Sony Oled A 90j. Beefed up my system and now play on a RTX 4080. Tryed to play Prey this week. And it looks good and I get a consistent 119 FPS. But man do I get sick. I was so sick It took almost half a day to recover. I use 90 FOV setting. Even increased it to 110. Disabled motion blur and that doesn't fix the issue at all. I was wondered if anyone else had this happen after building a new PC rig with "better" components?

I actually had some motion sickness from that game too.
I was only playing at 60fps on a 1080p screen with default FOV whatever it is set to.

I have never noticed a difference with a PC upgrade but I do notice a difference depending on the time of day I play. Its' always worse late at night for me.
It may sound weird but some things that may help with something can also have the reverse effect which is known as paradoxical affects. So you mentioned increasing field of view which I'm assuming is to offset motion sickness that could occur with a narrow field of view? Have you tried the opposite of lowering it more than the base?

I find very high value fov to negatively impact me. Maybe not motion sickness but it's more eye strain for me. I think it's I'm trying to process much more.

It's not likely to help but figured I would throw it out there. Also, I'm not familiar with the monitor but you mentioned it's a television. If it's a big TV are you sitting too close to it? Maybe at first sit further away. But if it's normal then my beat suggestion would be...

Try something called gradual exposure if possible. It's a type of therapy typically to overcome anxiety BUT it could be used to increase distress tolerance in general so in this case against nausea. If you have a steam deck or smaller monitor. Play on that. Slowly decrease the fov and slowly play longer sessions and note when you are feeling less nausea. The key is to not overdue it and to just mildly over time increase ability to be in that setting without the negative effects. Then go back to the TV and start slow and build up the tolerance.

I feel obligated to say it's not medical advice and consult a doctor or something as nausea may be a sign of other stuff. But if you want to lower nausea it's actually a really effective way in general. Hope it gets better for ya.
The first rule of troubleshooting any issue where something changed is to look at the variables that changed.

You're correctly looking at the hardware, but there's another thing you mentioned. You played at 60 FPS before, and are playing at 120 FPS now. Have you tried limiting it to 60 FPS and seeing if the same thing happens?

Other considerations...

1. Were you playing from the same location? Or did you maybe move to a different angle/distance from the display?

2. Did you play for a longer time period than normally?

I can't make it past 15 minutes. Without feeling like vomiting.

The post above about reducing the FOV sounds intriguing. Because ever since I stopped gaming on consoles. I do have issues with various FPS shooter games. Half Life is the worst of them all. The odd thing is. I played the Orange Box collection back on the PS3. And had no problem completing it. It was 30 FPS. But when I attempted it on my new rig last year. I felt like I got off a roller coaster.
