decent for a laptop
mobile 4050 is way better than any igpu

about the same as a 3060 minus the vram

its short on system ram for a modern build, but 16g of system ram is enough for its gpus
the intel hd will rob some, but not enough to worry about for the game it can play

ok what games can run on it
Any
You might want a laptop cooler for running Crysis or Dwarf Fortress or Minecraft with shaders and render distance cranked up.
SSD will be full with couple of games, should really have minimum 1 TB these days.
Add a 2nd NVME SSD such as a 2TB
It's okay'ish I guess (like mine), though I ain't a laptop kind of guy. As I used to go overseas for extended periods, I'd gotten a laptop, a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ACH6H, which has an AMD R7 5800H (8C/16T), 1TB SSD (upgraded to 2TB + 2nd 2TB SSD), 16GB DDR4 3200MHz (upgraded to 32GB) and an RTX 3070 140W. This was over 2 years back though.

I'd say that, perhaps OP's and my laptops are about the same performance-wise, but I'd give the edge to mine as it's powered by a Mobile RTX 3070 140W GPU, with 8GB of VRAM. It does well in a surprising number of the recent games, Iike DSR, BM Wukong, Space Marine 2....to name but a few. Obviously, these aren't at max in-game graphics setting, but still at 'High' at minimum. PQ is good enough, and framerate is playable at about 60fps and higher.

OP's laptop has the RTX 4050 6GB, which is able to leverage some of nVidia's newer tech like FG (I think, dunno IF the mobile RTX 4050 is powerful enough though), still, OP should be able to play some more GPU demanding games, but at reduce graphics setting to ensure good framerate.

Price and location have to be included.

That's because in places like America a 4050 laptop might be 600 USD, but you can spend 799-899 and get a 4070 laptop if you know where to look and wait for sales.

1. Overall though, I wouldn't buy a 16GB RAM laptop in 2024. If you do, make sure you can upgrade the RAM later.

2. 512GB is also a low amount of space -- again, make sure the laptop itself has expansion slots on board. Some HP laptops have a SATA + NvME or NvME x 2, but for that laptop I don't know and doubt it.

3. Thin and gaming is a red flag. Usually means poor thermals or lower powered GPU variants unless you are spending top dollar Laptop GPU is likely a low power version, CPU probably clocked lower than average too. If not, it will have a heat issue. The tradeoff for thin and light is performance either in power, battery life, usage or all of the above. Thin laptops are more likely to not have their RAM upgradeable and if RAM can't be upgraded or exchanged, it is a bad buy IMO

4. RAM not upgradeable -- if this is true, it's e-waste. Why? RAM can fail on any device. You want the ability to swap the RAM out if there are issues. If not, after the 1-year warranty, the laptop will become a paperweight and e-waste if the RAM fails unless you are good with a soldering ICs.

But even if you were, it makes zero sense to buy a product that adds complexity when there are alternatives or you can save money and get a better one.

I imagine you are looking for longevity somewhat. If that is the case bad buy for the above reasons: likely not upgradeable, GPU weak, storage is too low, RAM too low and likely not replaceable

I wouldn't buy it.

No AAA games. At least not on medium settings. Maybe ultralow or something with some mods which let you play games beyond low settings.
You could play games like Stardew Valley on it. Or you could emulate games like for PS2, SNES or N64.

Its not a gaming notebook. They sell it as a "gaming"-notebook, but it is far FAR far away from being one.

On the plus side:....
It is better than an igpu, if that helps.

Similar specs to my Lenovo laptop, purchase last year (except i5-13500H) ... It's a good laptop.

Good for what exactly?
For using it as a paper weight?
