Are you trying to run games which are already installed?
Were these games installed under Windows?
Is Steam Play enabled in the Steam settings?
Thank you for your reply!
I downloaded steam_latest.deb from the Steam Store site and ran the file. When I started Steam it downloaded and installed an update.
I have previously played these games on a Lenovo Windows 11 PC that I upgraded from Windows 10 (the games worked on both OSs).
I'll check the Steam Play setting. I haven't done that yet.
Thank you for your reply!
I'm not sure what you mean. Where do I find the proton checkbox?
I'm not sure where to find the Steam Play setting. When I go to Settings>Applications>Steam I don't see anything like Steam Play. Is there a setting within Steam itself I can check?
It looks like only two of my 12 games are able to be installed on Linux: Small World and Ticket to Ride. All the others, including Scythe and Terraforming Mars, have the Install button grayed out.
Also, installing with .deb file is asking for headaches for various reasons.

compatibilty
force use of proton
Linux does not have a proper NTFS driver, so it is not capable of handeling Windows filesystems properly. It is best to wipe the drive and reformat it with a Linux compatible filesystem such as Ext4.
The install button is greyed out because by default Steam will only allow the installation of native and Proton validated games. To play any Windows game you will have to enable Steam Play in the Steam settings.

New users shouldn't be installing anything from terminal anyway, and just use the provided flatpaks in their respective application/update manager.
Keep the terminal away from them
But i get your point
pick major one like ubuntu, mint, endeavour and get used to it first
Thank you, kimiko. I'll give this a try.
Thank you, Omega. I'll look into this when I get a chance. I'm locked into Zorin and it meets many of my needs so far. Games are a distraction for me on my Linux computer. I just thought it would be fun to have them on it as a convenience (Ticket to Ride works, and it's fun). Sure appreciate your help and patience. People like you, who are selfless with their knowledge and time, make it easier for people like me.
