Power color 7900xtx
Hi hello I’m new to this. This is my first pc. Is putting the bracket that it comes with under the card needed? I talked to Microcenter technician and he said it was optional

Depends on the sag. It's almost certainly needed. My xt needs it anyway. You don't want that thing sagging and breaking/cracking the board.

If you don't like it, get a flagpole style brace.

So it is needed? From what the technician told me. If I wanted to do it. I would have to place it on the edge of the card and so it doesn’t mess up the card’s airflow?

It’s optional in a sense like putting a helmet while cycling.
It’s there to lower the risk of pcb damage due to GPU sag. Also bend PCB can affect contact between the GPU die and the cooler and slowly worsen GPU temps.
I would definitely use the bracket even if it’s optional.

Alright do I just follow the video that’s they posted on their channel? To place it closest to the edge as possible? Making sure to not block the card’s fan?

Depends on how much it sags, too much sag can actually cause performance issues in some instances when sagging if it's enough to ever so slightly separate the cooler and core. I've seen it happen before, and others have noted that games even crashed due to sagging.

Should also buy from Sapphire, the PowerColor models like the Red Devil had temperature issues so I can't wholeheartedly recommend it

It doesn’t matter as long as you don’t physically touch the fans and prevent them from spinning. The big arm has a smaller adjustable rubber pin. Try to place it somewhere in the middle of the GPU if possible. Using a GPU bracket at the very end of a GPU is less optimal and can still lead to an U-shaped sag and PCB damage.

I put as much as possible as close to the fans without covering them on the right side of the gpu
The position of the supporting object only matters insofar as where it's relieving tension on the motherboard supporting it, not for airflow purposes. As long as it's past the PCI Express slot, it should be doing that properly enough. Some people vastly overestimate what it takes to have meaningful temperature differences from airflow restrictions/dust, and a support bracket isn't anywhere near that.

Just ensure that it's supporting a solid enough part of the graphics cards and won't hit any fans or have a risk of being knocked out of place, and that's more than fine.

had a 4gb 680 fold in half before we understood GPU sag from coolers that big.....PUT IN THE BRACKET IT IS NOT OPTIONAL.......

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Y05UANgdC4

in this video he still had to reball a 4090 core even when a GPU support was used.........

I've not really encountered any issue as long as the card is firmly secured onto the PCIe slot, plus the card is securely screwed onto the case. Still, a sag may become apparent over time, though I've not experienced it. I'm a better safe than sorry guy, so I'd gotten a simple GPU brace for my Nitro+ RX 6900 XT in my SOLDAM XR-1 case:

I'm using a GPU vertical stand/mount on my MERC310 RX 7900XTX, though I have the card at an angle. IF I were to mount it directly to the PCIe x16 slot, I don't need to worry about getting a GPU brace/mount/stand, my case has a built-in brace for the GPU (and I've used it when I had the RX 6900 XT in it, and the Red Devil Vega64 before it).

It's only needed if you have GPU's with big chonking third party coolers slapped on them.

I have a reference saphire 7900XTX that has zero sag so i don't need a piece of plastic to hold up my GPU.

Well, I panicked and wondered how my 7900xtx was doing. Found the anti-sag bracket that came with the gpu. Couldn't figure out how to attach it. Ended up chaining together some zip ties that have tension on them to counteract the force of the sagging.

Now it looks like half a suspension bridge lol. Also I guess the rad can get very dusty lowered my idle temps by 10C

It’s really hard to do it wrong. It’s just a stick holding the card. I use one as well for a peace of mind.

Just don’t lift it too high as this may bend the pcb the other way.
