AM5 tips or advice?
Finally moving to AM5 from AM4 and wondering if there are things to keep in mind for hardware choices. For example, I remember on AM4 the timings and speed of the RAM was quite important, due to the infinity fabric and ratios matching or some such. But I've not seen nearly so much news about this issue on AM5, so I don't even know if this is a concern.

So was hoping to find out what I would need to know or how to get the most out of the platform before I start actually spending money on the components.

The big thing to know on DDR5 platforms is that if you plan on using more than 2 DIMMs, you won't be able to hit the "sweet spot" (6,000 MHz for AM5 and 3,600 MHz for AM4) like you can on AM4.

With DDR4, Samsung B-dies were the best to get, but with DDR5, it's some sort of Hynix die (I forgot the exact one).

If you go with 2 DIMMs and get 32 GB, those should be single rank so this is about as "light" as it gets insofar as how heavy the memory configuration is to stabilize, meaning you shouldn't have troubles hitting 6,000 MHz. Some AM5 CPUs will win the lottery and you can get closer to 6,400 MHz and keep the ratio, but it's not guaranteed.

Memory training will be longer, and unless you enable "memory context restore", it will do it every boot. When you enable this, I think there's some other setting you want to also change or you might get BSODs, but I'm working off memory of what I recall being said about it.

TL;DR: Three things to know are it's sort of the same with Ryzen as "matching RAM to Infinity Fabric is still important", "the sweet spot is 6,000 MHz now instead of 3,600 MHz", and "you won't be able to get very high capacity and still maintain sweet spot on any DDR5 platform like you can with late DDR4 platforms".

i see quite cheap offers for 5950x maybe just upgrading cpu and wait for am6 (around 2026) is better way

Thanks man. You saved my time. DDR 5 is Hellbent of MHz compatibility problem. Especially higher speed. Speed depends on ram manufacturer chip so Hynix best on ddr5 while Samsung on DDR 4.

I heart am6 for 2027 June from Amd Slideshow.

Im waiting for high capacity that is 96gb 6000 mhz ram. Window and games hunger for ram capacity also. And i always work high capacity ram. Highly recommended

The maximum infinite fabric for Ryzen 7000 is 2000MHz and Ryzen 9000 is 2400MHz.
If in Zen 2 and 3 they were synchronized IF/DRAM/Memory controller ratios. Now on Zen 4 and 5 it's just DRAM and the memory controller.
Keep the RAM at two sticks of 6000 MHz CL 30 and you will be fine.
Thank you all for the advice! I will look for some 6000 MHz CL30 ram, with Hynix die, to get the most out of AM5 while still being stable.

Pay attention to the price. Ram has very steep diminishing return, it might be better to spend your money elsewhere

6000 CL30 is not that much more in cost but is highly recommended especially by AMD

sweet spot on AM4 was 3600......not 3200.....
Oh, typo fixed.

I also said 600 MHz instead of 6,000 MHz.
